Solas Art Gallery: The Solas Exhibition for emerging artists, “ FOUR”, will be opening on Fri 15th March. This particular exhibition, started a couple of years ago was set up to encourage emerging artists to have their first experience of a small solo exhibition. Even for experienced artists an exhibition can be a daunting thing and part of Solas Gallery`s ethos is to encourage artists new and experienced, and to help bring their work to the publics `notice. The artists are also fully involved in all the work that goes into ...organising an exhibition. The member artists chosen for this year’s show are Molly Richardson, Newtowngore; Jim Richard, Shercock, Co. Cavan; Isabella Bazzani, Blacklion, Co. Cavan; Stephen Costello, Cloonfad, Co. Roscommon. This exhibition is an interesting mix of four completely different types of art: sculpture; photography; paintings in oil and watercolour. Jim Richard is a young photographer, showing a passion and talent for this media. In his images, in a series called “Reflections”, he uses symmetry to turn images of family and landscape into patterns, the images all effectively presented in high contrast black and white as he feels that colour would distract the viewer from the intended effect. In contrast to this the vibrant colouring of some of Isabellas work is eye catching. This artists influences stem from her love of mythology, ancient powers of the earth and the inner journey of the spirit. Isa has several works of swans in flight using the same image but different techniques, the swan epitomising the bond between kindred spirits and reflecting her love of nature. Molly Richardson’s oil paintings are a calming group of flowers, land and seascapes. Starting to paint only a few years ago and from a farming background, Molly feels that since she has started to paint she appreciates the changing seasons and how the sunshine lights up the landscapes. The last exhibitor, Stephen Costello, uses mainly bog oak to express his art. He often feels at a loss to explain his pieces, having felt that his work was about exposing what is in the wood but now coming to understand that it is more about seeing a reflection of his feelings in the wood. Stephen is now using other woods as well for his powerful sculptures, the mix and contrasts giving even more effectiveness to his work. “FOUR” opens at 7.30 pm on Fri 15th March at the Solas Gallery above the Four Seasons Garden Centre in Ballinamore. The exhibition will be opened by Jennifer Richardson. Jennifer is a member of the Solas committee and a professional photographer whose keen eye and appreciation for detail makes her the ideal person to launch this exhibition. The exhibition is open until Saturday 6th April, gallery opening times Tues –Sat, 10-6pm. For any enquiries about the gallery or this exhibition please contact Gail or Ben, 071 9644210; look at our website, solasart.ie or join us on Facebook.
