COMPETITION: All Ireland Story Writing competition. George Hook celebrity broadcaster has launched “tell the future”, a story writing competition encouraging post primary school students across Ireland to write a short story on how to power the country into the future in a sustainable environmentally friendly way. Bringing competition winners stories to life is a key feature of this years “tell the future” competition and both winners will have the unique opportunity to have their story transformed into a one of a kind animated video narrated by George Hook himself. ACTION ON ALCOHOL MISUSE: The results of a survey on alcohol mis-use in Mohill and surrounding areas will be launched at a public meeting in the canon Donohoe Hall on Tuesday 30th October at 8.30pm. This is a very important meeting with a very interesting agenda. Your attendance will be welcomed.
NW HOSPICE FUNDRAISER: Mohill fire service are holding a fundraiser consisting of a car wash and coffee day at the fire station on Saturday next Saturday 27th October. Vintage American Fire appliance also on display. 10am start. We congratulate Mohill Fire Service who do wonderful work and all money raised will go to the NW Hospice. Please support this worthy cause.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: There was great celebrations over the weekend as my nephew Bernard Faughnan Dromod and now living in the wonderful care of Mrs Ann McHugh Waterfall Ck On Shannon celebrated his 70th birthday. Thanks also to the staff for day patients at St Patricks Hospital and all who were so good to Bernard on his big day. We all wish him many more years in good health to be enjoyed with family and friends.
MOHILL ANNUAL HORSE FAIR: This year Mohill Annual horse fair takes place on Sunday 28th October . It is a traditional street fair incorporating horses hens ducks geese horse hot shoeing demonstrations,cart making demonstrations lots of oddities and curiosities,street traders musicians. You name it come along on the day and enjoy meeting old aquaintances for a cuppa and chat. Hotels and all businesses in the town will be open. So do come and enjoy Mohill at its best. We extend a cead mile failte to all.

LEITRIM ICA FEDERATION: ICA members please note that Patricia Gilroy is appealing to all knitters - crocheters in Leitrim to get out the wool and knit six inch squares for blankets to keep children warm who are hospitalised. They need to be in pastel acrylic yarn that is washable. All contributions to Patricia in Drumshanbo by end of November. Mossie Whelan will be holding Irish class in Mohill library on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm. The competition for the next federation meeting will be an illustration of an Irish proverb (in Irish and by hand). Mossie is happy to help anyone with this . She has a collection of proverbs too. All guilds are asked try to fill shoe boxes for christmas to be in by the beginning of November. It may be early to think about the festive season but a good beginning is half the work. A date for next years diary Leitrim week will be 8th -14th July.
