Library: Anna Carey is the coolest Irish Teenage Author. She is a Journalist, Teenage Book Reviewer and used to sing and play in a band. Her books are about a character called Rebecca. Rebecca’s life is ruined by her mother and complicated by boys and birthdays. Her book The Real Rebecca won the Children’s Book of the year 2011. Her newest novel is Rebecca Rules. Leitrim and the 1641 Rebellion: As part of their Winter Lecture Programme, Ballinamore Library is hosting a lecture “Leitrim and the 1641 Rebellion” at 8.30pm on Wednesday 24th October .The speaker is Dr Brendan Scott, a lecturer in early modern history at the history department in NUI Maynooth. He has published extensively on religion and society in Tudor and Stuart Ireland and is editor of the Breifne historical journal. Admission to this lecture is free with All welcome.

Going Pink Walk, Run, Stroll & Roll: October is breast cancer awareness month and this year, to raise funds, we have arranged a walk from the Marina (Nun’s Lock) to Ballyduff Lock. It happens on Sunday 28th October next with registration at 1.45pm at the Marina on the Golf Links Road. All contributions going to Breast Cancer research. Exhibition: The Ballinamore Community Arts Group Over the summer period artists* from the Arts Group - This exhibition showcases the fruits of this masterclass and provides a fascinating insight into the developmental process undergone by each of the artists. The exhibition will also features Mick O’Dea’s own work. If you can’t make it along on the opening Friday evening be sure to drop in before this exhibition closes on Nov 16th.
AGM: The reconvened AGM of the Ballinamore Badminton Club will be held in Smyth’s Siopa Ol next Wednesday 24th October at 9.00pm. The original AGM was postponed due to very poor attendance. More people/parents are need to help with training and supervision of children as two existing coaches are not available this year on Tuesday nights and one may not be available on Thursday night. If the juvenile badminton club is to function this year, more help is needed. Training / coaching course will be organised for adults in Ballinamore. 5km Fun Run: A 5km Fun Run will take place on the Golf- Links road this Sunday October 21st at 1pm with Olympian Colin Griffin as starter and Michelle Fanning doing warm up from 12.30pm. Registration in Ballinamore Community Centre from 12pm onwards. All levels and abilities welcome. Please come along to support Crumlin Children’s Hospital and the North West Hospice. €10 per person.
Childcare Ltd: Halloween Fundraiser Ballinamore Childcare are holding their Halloween Fundraiser on Bank Holiday Monday 29th Octr in the Community Hall. A disco will be held starting at 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Spot prizes galore for best costumes, disco dancers etc.
Exhibition: “Captured by Song” is an exhibition which explores the collecting work of Tom Munnelly (1944-2007) through his photographic collection and field diary records. Tom was employed as a full-time song and music collector from 1971 to his death in 2007. This exhibition is a selection of sixty images held at the National Folklore Collection representing various aspects of Tom’s life as a collector. As a full-time collector of folklore he was required to keep a filed diary recording day to day events and his diary is particularly insightful with his warm and honest descriptions of singers and musicians and reveals his passion and knowledge of traditional song and music. Admission is free.
Seán O’Heslin’s – Scéalta na Seachtaine: Bingo continues every Tuesday night in Ballinamore Community Centre at 9.00. Great prizes, €1,200 must be won each night. Winter time starting time will be 8.30.
