Maureen Warnock: We were all very shocked and saddened with the news of the death of Maureen Warnock of Annally Park, Longford, which occurred at her home on Monday March 19th. Maureen was very well known in the Kenagh area. She grew up in her native Abbeyderg where she was a very popular young lady during her schoolgoing days and during her teen years. Maureen was the only daughter of the late Jack and Aggie Orohoe and was born over sixty two years ago. During her years in Kenagh she proved to be a very outgoing person very well liked by all who had the pleasure to know her. after she moved to a job in Longford town she became equally well known and liked by all who had dealings with her. It was while working in Longford that she met and married the very popular Christy Warnock, a man who played a big part in the social and political life of Longford town. It’s fair to say that Maureen’s good personality played a big part in her husband’s election. She always had a good word for all of us from Kenagh whenever we might meet her around the town. She kept close to her roots. She will be sadly missed especially by her husband Christy children Gerry, Peter, Robert, Mary, Christina and Christopher. Her sons in law, daughter in law, grandchildren and a host of the relatives and friends both around Kenagh, Abbeyderg and Longford. She was buried in Ballymacormack cemetery after 12 o’clock mass in Newtownforbes on Wednesday last.

Brendan CARBERRY: There was also widespread shock and disbelief at the news of the very sudden and unexpected death at a very young age of Brendan Carberry of Killanure Lanesboro and formerly of Derrahawn Kenagh. Brendan was only fifty two years old when he was struck down suddenly last Monday March 19th near his home. He was a member of a very well known musical family having grown up in Derrahawn where music was played on a daily basis. Brendan was son of well known uillean piper Peter Carberry who was known far and wide as a master of the pipes. Brendan was well known around his native Derrahawn and later Killanure as a very quiet easy going personality, hard working and devoted to his family. He will be sorely missed by his wife Deirdre who found him unconscious and was with him during his last hours. Also his sons Kevin Barry, daughters Katie, his father Peter mother Patricia, brothers Peader and Noel, sisters Kitty Mag and Pat,grandson Conor and a very large circle of uncles aunts cousins relatives and friends. More especially his friends and family connections in the ceili music and dance world both in Ireland and overseas. He was buried in Clonbroney cemetery after his funeral mass in Lanesboro on Thursday last which was attended by one of the biggest crowds seen there for a long time.

Frank MCARDLE: The death also occurred in England of Frank McArdle (Bunty) formerly of the Island Kenagh. Bunty as he will be best remembered was a member of a large family who lived at the Island until the entire family emigrated to England over thirty years ago. He served in the congo with the Irish army during the late sixties before moving to England where he and his siblings settled down and made their home. He will be buried with his parents Tom and May in his adopted country.
