Dolmen Services: This year is a very special occasion for Rath Mhuire Resource Centre and Dolmen Services and Sr. Maeve as it marks the 25th anniversary of the Centre. The centre will commemorate this special occasion on Saturday 25 June with a celebration Mass in the Community Centre at 2.00pm. We would like to extend an invitation to the many people who over the years have been involved with Centre and to all the community to join in on marking this special occasion. Summer Camp: County Longford Youth Service is running a summer camp for young people in the area aged 10 and over. The camp is running from the 11 to 15 July at the Cannon Kelly Community Sports Hall Granard. The camp runs from 10.00am to 3.00pm daily and the cost is only €10.00 for the week. Active Retirement: Abbeylara Active Retirement group are going on a day trip to Tipperary this Thursday 23 June taking in Monegall Village, Holycross Abbey, The Rock of Cashel with a stop in Templemore for lunch. It promises to be a good day out. There are a few seats available at €35.00 all inclusive. If interested contact Maureen at 043 66 86057. The bus leaves Abbeylara at 9am and Granard at 9.10am.

Gun Club: The AGM of Granard Gun Club will be held on this Thursday night 23 June in Abbeylara Shooting Grounds at 8.30pm sharp. Membership and Insurance will be collected on the night. All members please attend.

Music School: Rath Mhuire Summer Music School takes place at the Community Centre Granard from 25 to 29 July for ages 6 – 16 year old. 10am to 3.00pm daily. All levels accepted. €40 per child €30 per subsequent family member (deposit €20). Highly qualified teachers in all areas. Classes in following instruments: Whistle; Bodhran; Keyboards; Guitar; Banjo; Mandolin; Fiddle; Flute; Button accordion and Piano accordion. Packed lunch required. Garden Competitions: The annual Co. Longford garden competitions include Flower Garden Competition open to ICA members only. Vegetable Garden Competition: Open to all gardeners, male and female in Co.Longford. The Children’s Section: A small plot of either vegetables or flowers. Open to all children in Co. Longford. Glotto Results: St. Mary’s Granard GAA Glotto results. This week’s draw took place in Fay’s and the numbers drawn were 9;13;15;21. There was no outright winner. Birthday Celebrations: Congratulations to Fergal Battrim, Cloughernal, Granard who celebrated his 21st Birthday recently with a party in Fay’s Bar and afterwards in the family home. We wish Fergal every good wish for the future.

AG Bingo: Bingo takes place each Wednesday night at 9.00pm in the Community Centre Granard. The Jackpot is now in excess of €8000. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and Granard GAA clubs. Your continued support is much appreciated.

VHI Cúl Camps: For the first time this summer one of the VHI GAA Cúl camps takes place in Higginstown Complex Granard. Camps are priced at €55 for the first child and €45 for every child thereafter with the cost of our nursery camps being just €30 per child. Golf Society: The Tom Walsh Memorial Trophy (4th year) which took place at Co Longford Golf Club on May 14th was once again a most enjoyable occasion. It is fitting that the competition continues to be played in the spirit of fun and camaraderie which so epitomised our late companion and great friend. It was also most gratifying to see a good turn out of visitors competing, with special mention made on the day of Michael Lennon who admirably kept the Father Manning Gaels colours flying. The presentations were made by Elizabeth Walsh and Society captain, Ned Monaghan. Preceding that Chairman, Seamus Finnan on behalf of the society presented Mary O’ Connor, representing the Longford Hospice Movement, with a cheque for €500. Mary expressed much thanks for the donation. The following are the results of the day: Winner - Brendan Kiernan - 37 points. R. up - Pat Monaghan - 35 points. Gross - Anthony Sheridan - 21 pts. gross. -Team - Hugh Duffy, Michael Lennon and Brendan Kiernan. Nearest Pin - Michael Meaney. Longest Drive. - Brian Kiernan. Visitor - Michael Meaney. Well done to Brendan Kiernan on a fine score in securing victory. In fact, double congratulations is in order to Brendan, as the following week-end he won the prestigious Lord Longford Cup at the same location. Next week results of Captain’s Prize from the Slieve Russell Ballyconnell.

New Postman: Welcome to our new postman in Granard town and environs Sean Berry we wish him many happy days.

Town Mayor: Cllr. P.J. Reilly was elected Mayor of Granard Town Council at their meeting on Monday 13 June the new Deputy Mayor is John Maguire. We wish them well in their roles.

Day Trip: In conjunction with (GAP) Granard Action Project will take place on August 18th when we will travel to Dublin Zoo. It should be a great day out. Bookings being taken at the centre.

Clothes Collection: We are genuinely grateful to all of you who have so generously donated used clothes. Please continue to think of us when you are cleaning out those wardrobes. We are a registered charity and the money raised stays within our community.
