NoVENA: There will be a Novena of Prayer in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Church of The Sacred Heart, Carrickedmond beginning on Thursday 23rd June and ending on Friday, 1st July. The Novena will be offered for peace in the World, the Sick and for Vocations. Mass and Novena will be at 8 p.m. each evening except Saturday 25th June, when there will be mass and the Novena prayer in Carrickedmond at 10 a.m. and Mass and Novena Prayer will be at 8 p.m. in Abbeyshrule, and on Sunday 26th June, mass and the Novena prayer will be at 10 a.m. in Carrickedmond. Everyone is welcome to attend on any or all of the nine days.

Book Launch:Local author Anne Skelly Glebe will launch her new book “Foolish Pride” in Longford Library on Wednesday night the 29th June at 7.30pm. This is a very important occasion for Anne and she would like to invite everyone to attend her launch. The book will be launched by author Brian Leyden. Congratulations to Anne and continued success for the future.

Defibrillator Group: The CADG intend purchasing a defibrillator for the Kilcurry to Tenelick area of the parish, ensuring that all households in those areas are within five minutes reach of a defibrillator in the event of an emergency. A training course is currently being organised for people from these areas. Get Well: Get well wishes are extended to Sean Delaney, Toome who is recovering from an illness at present. We all hope to see Sean out and about soon.

Boat Rally: All interested please note that application forms for the mid summer boat rally are now available by contacting 087-2489513. The Rally commences in Abbeyshrule on Saturday next the 25th of June with a day of fun at the harbour and later in the evening music and dance will take place in the Rustic Inn. The following day Sunday the 26th June the rally moves to Brannigan harbour Ballymahon where more family fun will be provided. On Saturday the 2nd July its Foigha’s big day where all the boats will dock for more fun activities. On Sunday 3rd July it’s on to Kenagh for more fun music and craic and for the first time on the 9th July the rally visits Killashee. The committee ask all in these areas to come out and support the canal boat rally when in your area.

Senior Citizens: The local pastoral council will organise a senior citizens outing for all senior citizens of the parish on Wednesday 13th July to Powerscourt. The tour will only take place if there are a sufficient number of people interested.

Corpus Christi: A reminder that Sunday next the 26th June is the feast of Corpus Christi.

Tidy Villages: The competition judging date is fast approaching. At this time the local tidy towns committee and households in the Abbeyshrule area are busy carrying out work and tidying up around the village in preparation for the arrival of the judging committee. Work parties are arranged for Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30pm and the committee would appreciate all help to come along and give a hand. We wish all concerned good luck in this year’s competition and hope that Abbeyshrule will lift the silverware when the winners are announced.

School Holidays: The local national schools in the parish St Sinneachs Colehill and Tashinney will close this week for the summer holidays. An end of year school mass will take place in St Sinneach’s school on this Wednesday morning at 10am to which all parishioners are invited to attend. We wish all teachers and pupils in both schools a very happy summer holiday.

Badminton Club: The Carrickedmond badminton club will hold their AGM in St Sinneachs hall Carrickedmond on Wednesday night the 29th June at 8pm. All club members and new people interested in joining the club are invited to attend the AGM.

ICA Competitions: The Longford ICA Federation are holding the following gardening competitions. A Flower Garden Competition, this competition is confined to ICA members only. A Vegetable Garden Competition which is open to all gardeners male and female in county Longford. A Children’s Section to include a small plot of either flowers or vegetables. Open to all children in Co. Longford. Adjudication will take place at the end of July to early August. Entries before June 30th to Lilian Walsh on 086-6014661.

Community Games: The Carrickedmond Community Games committee would like to send GOOD LUCK wishes to all the boys and girls from the parish who are taking part in the County Finals of Longford Community Games on Sunday next 26th June in Ballymahon.

Vintage Club: The annual sponsored tractor run takes place on Sunday next, 26th June. The tractors will assemble at Newcastle House, Ballymahon at 1pm. The route will cover about 15 miles. This event takes place annually and the proceeds are donated to local charities. On completion of the run there will be refreshments and each participant will receive a finishing award. Youth Camp: County Longford youth centre are running a youth camp in Legan from the 15th to the 19th August. This camp will be for boys and girls from teen age up to 18 years. For further information call 043-3340907.
