Arva

gaa: Arva made the trip to Sheelin Park on Saturday last to play Ballymachugh in the Division 3 League and following a great encounter emerged victorious on a score line Arva 1-11 Ballymachugh 1-8. In the home game last April Ballymachugh took the points by 3-7 to 1-9 so with a number of players missing the travelling supporters were delighted with the result on Saturday. Arva attacked from the throw in and Gavin Doyle had the ball in the Ballymachugh net but the Referee blew for a square ball. The home side took over and scored 1-2 in the next 5 minutes before Jonathan Mc Cabe opened the Arva account with a point in the 8th minute while James Morris had a similar score a minute later. The home side had points in the 10th and 14th minutes while Brian Ellis pointed for Arva in the 12th minute. Three points in a row for Arva as Conal Sheridan (15th & 21st minutes) and Gavin Doyle 16th minute found their range and brought them within a point of the home side but in the remaining minutes Ballymachugh added 2 points to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of the home side. Conal Sheridan pointed for Arva within 2 minutes of the resumption and Ciaran Brady added another in the 7th minute. The home side replied in the 10th minute but Ciaran Brady shook off a number of defenders to shoot to the net and put Arva in front in the 11th minute. Ballymachugh levelled with what was to be their last score in the 16th minute as Arva dominated to the finish with points from James Morris (20 mins), Jonathan Mc Cabe (22 mins) and a Conal Sheridan free in the 29th minute to take the points. Arva Team – James Kiernan, Shane Finnegan, Sean Mc Manus, Ciaran Brady (1-1), Stephen Ellis, Thomas Brady, Alan Barry, James Morris (0-2), Cian Sheridan, Jonathan Mc Cabe (0-2), Dermot Mc Glade, Paul Brady, Brian Ellis, Gavin Doyle (0-1), Conal Sheridan (0-4). Sub: Shane Mc Entee. This victory was made all the sweeter as Arva only had 20 players togged out due to a number gone away for the summer and others unavailable for whatever reason. Those on duty played with their hearts and put in a great display. On behalf of the Arva players and supporters we thank Ballymachugh for their hospitality on the evening. On Sunday morning Arva travelled to Mullahoran to play the home side in Our Lady of Lourdes Park in the Reserve League. Again Arva were short on numbers and only had15 players togged out – some of whom had played the previous evening. This game was a total wipe out for the visitors as the home side won by 0-16 to 1-3. At half time the score was Mullahoran 0-10 Arva 0-1 – this score came from a Conal Sheridan free. Within one and a half minutes of the restart the home side had another 3 points on the board and while Sheridan had another point and Raymond Daly scored 1-1 that was as good as it got for Arva. Daly’s goal came after a great run by Ciaran Cooney whose rasping shot was blocked by the goalie and Daly was following closely to hit the rebound to the net. Arva Team – Gareth Lynch, Patrick Murtagh, Philip Galligan, Dean Harrington, Shane Mc Entee, Raymond Brady, John Kiernan, Brian Fitzpatrick, Ciaran Cooney, Niall Fox, Pat Mc Cabe, Conal Sheridan (0-2), Raymond Daly (1-1).
