CHURCH RENOVATION: We are told that the proposals to renovate the Church for the Bi Centenary in 2012 took a major step forward last week when members of the Pastoral Council met with engineer John Madden to finalise the last remaining details of works to be done before tenders are sought through the local papers in the coming days. Fr. McGrath says they are very grateful to Mr. Madden for his interest in the parish and for overseeing the whole project at minimal expense and he gave a detailed and highly professional presentation with drawings, plans and outline documents of all the proposed renovations and a pragmatic understanding of the budget involved with realistic limits about what the parish can ultimately afford to do. The Pastoral Council is hopeful that as many local trades people as possible will come forward to tender for either all or indeed part of the works to be carried out and then when all interested parties have given their names, decisions can be taken about the most suitable way forward from there with as many local people as possible gaining contract employment for the duration of the Project. All going well work should begin both inside and outside the Church around mid July and hopefully end some time in the autumn, leaving us with the oldest Church in the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise to be proud of.
