The Ramblers crossed the Shannon into County Roscommon last Sunday to visit Slieve Bawn, near Lanesborough. Cathal McWeeney led the way to the summit which, at about 260 metres, may not be the most challenging of climbs, but the panorama to be seen from the summit is usually outstanding.
Thank you to Cathal for putting so much effort into devising the route and providing maps to guide the Ramblers on what is always a popular walk, slightly outside the usual territory for Sunday afternoons.
On next Sunday, April 17th, in a change from their calendar of walks, the Ramblers will join the annual charity walk from Granard to Abbeylara in aid of the St. Christopher’s services in Longford. The walk will begin at 3pm, so cars will leave Boherquill at the later than usual time of 2.30pm.
Paddy Croghan’s Wednesday evening walks in the Ballymahon area have re-commenced for the summer. Walkers meet at the Mart in Ballymahon at 7.30pm. Details are available from Paddy at 087 9937533. The Boherquill Ramblers can now be found on Facebook as well as online at www.irelandwalking.ie.
