We were all delighted with our increased marks in this year’s competition. Our overall points increased by 8 points to 266. We have consistently increased our marks over the last 4/5 years & the work done around the village is being acknowledged by the adjudicators. The full report can be seen on http://www.tidytowns.ie/index.php and makes very interesting reading. Some positive remarks that are worth mentioning include *The wonderful achievement for school & community in gaining 5th Green Flag *the particularly helpful local businesses *FAS daily litter picks *St Mary’s Church new setting *St Paul’s Church & the excellent railings * Castle Forbes entrance * Presence of active Residence Associations in local estates * Lupins at 23 Corry Pk * Castle Court & Mahon Ave are a credit to the owners *Corryline Close is a green oasis *Meadow Court is verdant * Castle Pk was very neat with well established shrubbery at entrance looking well *Sligo Rd was clean & neat & red seating looked very well *Nolan Motors is very well landscaped & gives a good first impression on arriving at Newtownforbes, hedges with wild roses & honeysuckle looked well *Station Rd had a beautiful unspoilt railway bridge and unspoilt surrounding area with meadowsweet in the hedge. Concluding comment was that Newtownforbes is an interesting village with a hardworking & diligent community. The playground had not started at the time of adjudication in June so this will make a big difference to our entry for 2016. The committee would like to thank everyone who has helped make Newtownforbes a more beautiful place to live in & we look forward to continued support.
Four in a row Celebrations
Clonguish are still the only Club in County Longford to have brought home the Sean Connolly Cup four years in a row by winning the Longford Senior Football Championship in 1962,1963,1964 and 1965. A full four course meal will be served and the event will be fully licensed. Music will be provided by Aftermath. As there is massive interest in the event and as capacity is limited it is important that you book your tickets immediately with Catherine Faughnan (087 9956496) or Donna Hagan (086 8855158). Tickets are keenly priced at €25 each.
