On Sunday evening last, St. Columba’s made the short journey to Higginstown, Granard for Round 2 of Peter Hanley Motors Senior Football Championship. Our opponents were 2014 Intermediate championships Carrickedmond. As was expected it was a close and hard fought encounter. With the sides tied at five points each at the interval it was all to play for in the second half. The experience of senior football for the last number of years proved to be a deciding factor as the lads from the half parish emerged victorious on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-8. In the draw for Round 3 we got neighbours Abbeylara. This game is scheduled to take place at Emmet Park, Killoe on Saturday 8th August at 6.15p.m. This weekend it’s back to league action when Longford Slashers are visitors to the Laurels on this Friday 31st July with a 8pm throw in. As always please check fixtures for confirmation of games.
