On Sunday May 31st next a poker classic will be held in the Breffni Arms Hotel in Arva starting at 6pm. This Classic is organised by friends of the late Martin Cadden and all proceeds go to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund.All support will be greatly appreciated.

Connolly’s Club Membership

Anyone who wishes to use the facilities in the club must be a fully paid up member. Membership for adults is €30. Students and OAPs €20. Family membership of two adults is €50.

Foroige

We are trying to promote Foroige in Co Longford and in particular Ballinalee. We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in setting up a Foroige club in your locality, Foroige allows young people to have fun in a safe environment. Congrats to Darren Nugent, River Crescent, who recently celebrated his 21st in Farrell’s pub. A good night was had by all.

Thank you

Kate McKenna and Sandra Martin would like to thank everyone who supported the play: It’s the Real McCoy! by the Killeen Dramatic Society on Easter Monday night. The play was in aid of Longford Hospice Palliative Care. They raised €635 and the draw on the night, which was in aid of the Kevin Bell Trust, raised €500. Thanks to Killeen Dramatic Society for performing on the night free of charge.

Abbeylara Parish Centre

The official opening of the parish centre takes place on Friday 12th June with country star, Derek Ryan performing on the night. Tickets cost €15. Dancing from 11pm to 1am with bar extension on the night.

Irish Dancing

The CRN Irish Dancing Open awards took place recently at the City West Hotel in Dublin. There were a number of dancers from the local area who took part. Shauna Heany, Gurteen, secured place in her category. All other dancers performed extremely well with a number of them being placed in the categories: Emma Doris, Aughnashannagh, Molly McEvoy, Riverside, Sinead and Ciara Heaney, Gurteen. Well done to all the children who participated and their teachers.

GAA

Congratulations to the county minor team who beat Carlow this weekend and are now through to the Leinster semi-final. Joseph Heaney, Curraghcahill and Colin Dalton are both involved in the team. Also, well done to Dessie Reynolds who scored for Longford in their win against Offaly. Everyone should get behind both teams in their upcoming matches.

Hard luck

To the school team, who were recently defeated in a fantastic match in Pearse Park. They played very well.
