Congratulations to all the pupils of Abbeylara and Aughnagarron National School who celebrated their First Penance/Confessions on Monday and Tuesday 9 and 10 March last.
Bishop Francis has requested as part of the Rededication ceremony of St. Mel’s Cathedral on Sunday, 17 May that each parish have a banner. The banner made from fabric would be held aloft on a pole. The fabric can have the name of the parish, a relevant local symbol and have whatever colours the parish chooses.
Presentation of medals to U-21 Championship winners and Division 3 League winners takes place on Saturday, 14 March 2015 in Crawford’s.

Crover House Hotel & Golf Club will host a Charity Night with some of Ireland’s top Music Stars on Wednesday, 25 March. Some of the Stars include Eugene Ginty, Patrick Feeney, Susan McCann, Conal Gallen and Visdimir Joblokov. Tickets are on sale at €25, doors will open at 7.30pm where the show will kick start at 8.00pm sharp. All proceeds will go directly to the County Cavan Cancer Night Nursing Services. Our Active Retirement group held their first get together of 2015 on Thursday 26 February last. There was a good turn out and all our members were looking and feeling fine after the harsh weather of January and February. Our AGM will be held on Thursday, 12 March and we hope to have all our members present on this occasion. There will be a special welcome for new members as this is the start of our year. In order to travel on our outings you have to be enrolled as a member and membership fees are been taking at the next get- together.
Special Olympics Ireland urgently requires volunteers in the Longford Area to help with our charity Collection Day on Friday, 24 April. Collection Day is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The money raised on the day will be used to ensure that Special Olympics Ireland can continue to realise its promise of offering people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate in sport in their area. Irish Leaving Cert Revision Course
An Honours Irish Leaving Cert Revision Course will take place in Longford town on Tuesday 31 March from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Granard Easter Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday April 4 and 5. A fun filled, action packed weekend is in store. Our Historical walk will take place on Saturday Morning. Our Grueling 5k run on Saturday afternoon. A not to be missed Novelty Race will take place on Saturday night. On Sunday we will have our Easter Parade with Street Entertainment and Live Music. Veterans of World War 1
We are trying to compile a list of all people from our parish who served in World War One. Later on this year Holy Mass will be offered for all these people. Their names could be placed on a stand with other relevant information about their service. During the Mass for these Veterans they could be acknowledged and thanked. History of Religious
It is hoped to compile a list of all Religious who are natives of our Parish. When a list is completed we can celebrate in some appropriate way these Abbeylara Parish natives Religious as our way for celebrating the Year for Consecrated Life 2015. Volunteers requested to do this survey – perhaps one from Abbeylara and one from Carra.
Copies of a simplified version of the seven questions from the Synod Preparatory Document are available in our Churches. Please take one and any views you may have about any of these questions, contact any member of the Parish Pastoral Council. This is part of the preparation for the Synod due to take place in October 2015 in Rome on Marriage and the Family. 2015 Irish Vintage Society
Streete Parish Park will host the 2015 Irish Vintage Society All-Ireland on Sunday, July 12. Cycle and Climb
The 5th Annual Glenn Brady Memorial Cycle and Climb will take place on Sunday, May 31st. This unique event is challenging and most rewarding, with 147km cycle and a 3-3.5 hour climb on Croagh Patrick. So there is plenty of time to train and we will look forward to another very successful day on May 31st. Details on Registration will be available in the coming weeks.

The Carers Association
The Carers Association are providing QQI (FETAC) Level 5 Care of the older person training on the 26 March 2015. This will be run one day a week for five weeks from 9.30am to 4.30pm. A Vintage Run will be held on 15 March at 12pm from Creegan’s, Bunlahy. Vintage and modern Tractors, Cars, Motorbikes, Lorries, Ass and Carts are welcome. This fundraiser is in aid of The Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund and Bunlahy Area Action Group. Entry fee is €20 per vehicle and registration time starts at 10.30am. A Craft Fair is being held at Ardagh Heritage and Creative Centre on March 14 from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. You are invited to go along to the beautiful setting of Ardagh and browse the stalls.
