Congratulations once again to Liam Butler who qualified for the Leinster final with his Recitation “The Joys of Motoring” and also our Novelty Act “The Ghosts of the GAA” starring John Murray, Emer McCabe, Patsy Brady, Padraig Kelly, Gerry Madden, Liam Butler and Paddy Donnelly at The Downs Mullingar on Sunday last. The Leinster final takes place in Ballymore on Sunday, 29th March in Ballymore Co Westmeath at 3pm. All our successful finalist are no strangers to Leinster Scór finals with Liam being victorious on no fewer than three previous occasions while our Novelty Acts also reached Leinster finals in the past. Longford Ploughing Committee have selected Legan for the 81st Annual Ploughing Championship and Field Day on Sunday 12th April. The host Farmers are Pauric Dalton and Frank Lyons and the venue is Foxhall. This is the most prestigious outdoor field event of the year and will include the only Celebrity Challenge in Ireland. Hopefully, weather permitting, a great day of good ploughing and good general entertainment will be had on the day.
Results of GAA Lotto draw held on Monday, 2nd March in Mitchell’s for a jackpot of €10,000. Numbers drawn 1, 6, 9 and 11. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners of €50 were Tia & Noel O’Neill and Sandra Matthews. This week’s draw took place in Connaughton’s, Rathowen and results will be published next week.
Irish Cancer Society annual Daffodil Day fundraiser is Friday, 27th March. It is the biggest and longest running fundraising day for the Society and money raised helps to fund services for families touched by cancer.
The death occurred recently in Harslden London of Pat McCormack, formerly of Rockpeyton. Pat immigrated to England as a young man and spent all his working life there. He was always a very popular visitor when he returned on holidays. A really likeable and friendly person renowned for his generosity good humour and quick wit he will be sadly missed by all those who looked forward to his homecoming his many friends in Ireland and England but most of all by his brother and sisters, relatives and friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathy. May he rest in Peace.
Congratulations to Garret Hunt and Lisa McGovern who were married in St Mary’s Church, Legan on Thursday last. A large number of family and friends attended a reception in the Hodson Bay, Athlone. We wish them many years of health and happiness.

Legan Drama Group are now in final preparation for this years production of “The Real McCoy” which will be staged in the Aurora Hall from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th March.
