Battle of the Bands
Crover House Hotel was alive with the sound of music on Saturday, 28th February for the first ever Battle of the Bands competition. Comprising musicians from all over the county and further afield 7 U-13 and 9 U-18 bands performed before a large audience of family, friends and supporters. The event was run under the auspices of Camhaltas and the judges from Cork, Roscommon, Tipperary and Fermanagh were impressed with the extremely high standard of the 80 musicians. The winners in the U13 section was 2 2 1 – Ruairi Griffin, Ruari Reilly, Daire Halton, Darragh Darcy and Lauren Reilly. The Irish Officer of the local branch is Sinead Halton who welcomed all to this competition which it is hoped will become an annual event. At local level there are 73 members in Comhaltas branch and the youngsters meet twice a week for sessions. Great credit to the organisers and the dedicated parents and to the children themselves for the progress in traditional Irish music. Well done all.
