The Midland Dancing committee are holding a fundraiser at The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Friday, 24th October in aid of the South Westmeath Hospice, St. Christophers, Longford and also the Irish Cancer Society. It promises to be lots of fun with Heats of Waltzing and Jiving Competition taking place between 10.00p.m. and 1 a.m. Music will be provided by P.J . Murrihy. Admission is only €10. Are you interested in reviving your Irish Speaking? Cairde Comhra is a group of adults who meet every Wednesday night 8p.m. to 10p.m. in the Co-Op building in Kenagh (The old National School). In an informal setting, we try to improve whatever level of Irish we have. New members are welcome to join us – so if you have very little, a little, or a lot and would like the opportunity to improve your “Cupla focail”, please come along.
A Night at the Dogs
Ballymahon G.A.A. are running their annual Night at the Dogs in Mullingar Greyhound Track on Saturday, 25th October. Tickets cost €20 and can be bought from Club members. The jackpot prize is €1,500. The Club are selling advertising in their Race Night programme, they have already received some generous sponsorship from many businesses in Ballymahon. If there Mike Farrell Jnr (Asst. Sec), Alan Hudson (Development Chairman), Enda Connaughton (Vice-Chairman Development), Robert Forbes (Treasurer) or any Club member. This Draw is to help development at the Club. There will be a free bus provided to and from the Race track. Kicking the night off will be a novelty race involving players from the club which is kindly sponsored by Cooney’s Hotel, a fun way to start off the night’s fun.
Ballymahon/Forgney Community Games A.G.M. will be held on Thursday, 23rd October at 8.30pm in Skellys, Ballymahon. They are looking for interested parents/volunteers to please come along as they will be discussing activities for 2015 in the area. Among the many activities held last year were chess, draughts, art, tag rugby, indoor soccer, futsal, gaelic, debating and athletics. Activities run from age group U.8 to U.16 with something for every child to take part in. They are hoping to continue with these activities and introduce some new ones but, to do this, they will need more help to coach, manage and run the games in the area. So please come along, enjoy a cuppa and share your ideas with them.
Art Classes are taking place with Frances Kelleher at the Sisters of Mercy house, Main Street on Wednesdays from 7p.m. to 9p.m. Fee is €10 per session. Newcomers welcome, also beginners.
Weekly Prayer meetings are held every Thursday night, 8p.m. to 9.15p.m. in the Sisters of Mercy House, Main Street. It consists of Rosary, Reading of Scripture for the following Sunday, Hymns of Praise, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Prayers of Petition and the Holy Souls. Every welcome, come and see.

The much-awaited partial re-print of “Ballymahon, a Journey back in time”, is now available at Hanly’s Newsagents , Lr. Main Street. The book, packed with many photographs of bygone times, and for many, familiar faces and places would make, yet again, a great Christmas gift. The reprint will be welcome by all who appreciate local history and its preservation for future generations. If you did’nt purchase a copy of the book first time around now is your chance while stocks last, price €20. Those who have placed orders will have their books reserved for them and all who expressed an interest in purchasing the book can now do so at Hanly’s.
The club are in the process of embarking on an annual fundraising draw. The annual subscription costs €50 and will include entry into the Lotto Draw of November where a guaranteed prize fund of €4,300 will be distributed. If there is not one individual winner, the prize fund will be distributed as follows: 1st €1,500, 2nd €1,000, 3rd €750, 4th €500, 5th €250, 6th, 7th, & 8th €100. This draw will take place in Nallys Corner House pub on Saturday, 1st November. The annual subscription also includes entry into 26 fortnightly lotto draws commencing on Saturday 8th November with a Jackpot of €1,000. Tickets are available from any of the committee members.
Have you any old football boots?
Claire Delaney, Toome, a member of the Ballymahon/Forgney ladies senior football team is travelling to Nairobi in Kenya with her school in a few weeks time. She is asking if anybody has old football boots, kits,etc which can be used to introduce the young children in Kenya to Gaelic football. If you have, please bring them to the club’s training session at the pitch on Friday evening from 6-7p.m. Please help out.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Sean and Peggy Finlass, Cloncallow on the sudden death last week of Sean’s siste, Maura McManus, Athlone, also to Maura’s son Stephan, daughters Breda and Deirdre, to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Alice, sons-in-law Sean and Johnney, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Maura, who is pre-deceased by her husband Robbie, was laid to rest at Coosan Cemetery on Saturday last. May God grant rest to her Soul.

Kenagh G.A.A. are holding a fund-raising auction in St. Dominic’s community centre on Sunday, 26th October. Viewing from 12 noon. The club would greatly appreciate donation of items for the auction. Death of Mrs Patricia Farrell
The death occurred last week at Costello’s Nursing Home, Ballyleague of Mrs Patsy Farrell (nee Doris), wife of the late Joe, Lisnacusha, Lanesboro. We offer our sincere sympathy to Patsy’s daughter, Jacinta, sons Ron, Paul and Joe, brother Tommy, daughters-in-law Marion, Fiona and Debra, son-in-law Ray McCormack (formerly Main St., Ballymahon), sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends. May she rest in peace.
Ballymahon/Forgney Ladies football club are holding their annual Family Fun Run on 25th October starting at 11a.m. Registration will take place at the Clubhouse from 10a.m. Adults €10 and €5 for anyone under 18.
