The annual Novena to our Blessed Lady will commence on this Wednesday, 22 October at 7.30pm and will continue until Wednesday, 17 December. This is a time of reflection petition praise and thanksgiving. All are welcome to take part.
As you may know Granard has been chosen as an Enterprise Town for 2014 by Bank of Ireland. To celebrate Granard Traders Association and Bank of Ireland are holding a business and sporting Expo in Granard on 24th and 25th October. Business Expo will be held at Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School on 24th October. (Please note change of venue) This will include exhibitions by local businesses and services also Arts & Crafts and our local schools. There will be a number of guest speakers including Marian Harkin MEP; Anne Hearty C.E.O. CPL Resources. Michael Nevin Head of Local Enterprise with Longford Co. Co. and various other speakers. The Sporting Expo will be held at St. Mary’s Complex in Higginstown on 25 October – this will include all local sporting clubs: G.A.A.; Soccer; Pitch & Putt; Hurling; Gun Club; Badminton; Walking Club; Keep Fit Clubs. There will be exhibition games and guest speakers to include a number of sport stars. The weekend will finish on Saturday night with a Fancy Dress in the Boomerang Bar in aid of Christmas Lights in Granard. Best dressed lady €100. Best Dressed Man €100 and Best Couple €100 plus many more spot prizes. There is a draw on the night with a total of €1000 in prizes. Tickets are on sale locally at €5 each. Are you interested in the history of art and discovering some of the greatest paintings in the world then join renowned art critic and historian Ciaran MacGonagal for a series of talks in Granard Branch Library. The next two lecture will take place on this Thursday 23 October and 30 October at 7.00pm. Granard I.C.A. guild in association with Granard Community Library are hosting the Course with Mr. MacGonigal Art Critic. This course is kindly funded by LWETB. As a follow up to the Art Appreciation classes a trip to Art Galleries in Dublin is being organised by Ms Mary Carlton Reynolds Co Librarian and will be guided by Mr. Ciaran MacGonagle. The guild members are having a display in the Granard Expo this weekend and hope there will be a good turn out. The next guild meeting will take place on Thursday 6 November in the Credit Union meeting room at 8pm. All members please attend and new ones will be very welcome.

Moatsiders Active Age Group
We had a fantastic day out on our recent visit to Malahide Castle & Gardens and it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Our next meeting date is Thursday, 23rd October at 2.30pm and Patricia our Yoga Tutor will be joining us.
Held their first meeting after the Summer recess on Monday, 20 October in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre.
The inaugural meeting of the group took place this month and there was great interest and enthusiasm in getting the group established. Our next meeting will take place on Thursday November 13th at 7.30pm in the O’Carolan Room at Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. We will be inviting a speaker form Longford Historical Society to speake to us on the night.
All groups an activities have recommenced at the Dolmen Centre in Aughnacliffe (Dolmen Failte Active Age Group – Dolmen Day Care Services – North Longford Men’s Group). A cheque for €1,990 has been sent to the Irish Cancer Society as a result of the very successful “Cycle for Marie” held on Sunday, 21 September in Coolarty. Again a huge thank you to all involved.

Bank of Ireland has named Granard as Enterprise Town and are holding a few events to promote this on Friday 24 October and Saturday 25 October in Granard. St Mary’s are delighted to have been invited to take part and hold one of the events in our clubhouse. All local various sports club from the surrounding parishes have been invited by Bank of Ireland to take part in a display promoting their organisation in our clubhouse on Saturday starting at 11am. Bank of Ireland, Granard branch manager, Teresa Donoghue will open the event at 11am followed by Tyrone Manager, Mickey Harte. We are delighted Mickey Harte will be one of the guests on the day and I am sure he will get a great welcome in Granard. Everyone is invited to drop down to our Clubhouse to view the displays, attend a question and answer session, watch a bowling demonstration from Streete bowling club and a football match.
