Ardagh Book Club

Award-winning writer Donal Ryan, author of The Spinning Heart and The Thing About December, will visit Longford Library this Friday evening, 24 October, to read from his novels and speak about his writing. The event will be hosted by the Library in association with Ardagh Book Club. Many people will be familiar with the Tipperary-born writer. Both of his books have topped the bestseller lists, and The Spinning Heart was longlisted for The Man Booker Prize. The novels resonate with readers because of their relevance to modern Irish life. The Spinning Heart depicts the aftermath of the boom in a small town as the characters struggle with unemployment and survival on ghost estates. Greed and cruelty dominate events in The Thing About December as a vulnerable young man tries to deal with the loss of his parents and the inheritance of a valuable farm. All are welcome to the Library for the author’s visit at 7.30 pm this Friday, 24 October.
