We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of the late Breedge Nicholl, Dundrum, Dublin and formerly from Bridge Street, Mohill who passed away on Tuesday, August 5th last at Mullingar General Hospital. Breedge was laid to rest in Shanganagh Cemetery, Dublin on Friday last. May she rest in peace.

We send our congratulations to Miss Michelle Crossan, Bornacoola and Mr Patrick Oliver Condron who hails from the Cloonbroney area of County Longford. The happy couple were married on Saturday week last in St. Michael’s Church, Bornacoola with their reception afterwards at the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon. We wish you health and happiness for the future.

Show success

It’s the time of year again for the agricultural shows in various venues through out the region. It kicked off with Cloone show on Bank holiday Monday and it proved to be a great success with large crowds attending and enjoying this wonderful event, Congratulations to local farmers Gerard and Tom Mulligan whose cattle won several prizes. Tom winning overall champion with his Angus bull and Gerard winning three 1st prizes. Next show is Mohill on Sunday next on the Carrigallen road beside the sports complex.

We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of the late Sr Mel McGowan, Dun Mhuire, Athlone and formerly from Tawlaughtmore, Mohill who passed away on Friday last at the Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe. Sr Mel was laid to rest in the Convent Cemetery, Moate on Monday last. May she rest in peace.

The Ray Flynn Mile 
The Co. Longford Tourism Committee is hosting the inaugural Ray Flynn Mile in Longford Town on Saturday, the 23rd August, in honour of the Longford native, who holds the Irish record for the 1500 meters and the mile, as well as a world record as part of an all-Irish 4x1 mile relay team. This race will be run on the Ballinalee Road, beginning at the roundabout and finishing at St Mel’s Cathedral Car Park. The meeting point will be the enterprise centre on the Ballinalee road. The event will help form part of a running festival weekend in Longford that includes the 13th Annual Longford Marathon, scheduled for Sunday the 24th of August. The Ray Flynn event will include an elite race, an over 40s race, and juvenile races. People who just want to support the Tourism committee are most welcome and are invited to walk the mile with friends or family. Registration is €10 for adults and €4 for juveniles, and advance registration is available through Eventbrite,  www.eventbrite.ie . People who are registered to run in the marathon on the following day can run the mile event at a subsidised fee of €5.

The Royal Canal Heritage Walk
As part of National Heritage Week, Longford Tourism are hosting a heritage walk along the route of The Royal Canal from Richmond Harbour in Clondra. Led by Fr Tom Murray this interesting and informative walk will take in some of the beautiful scenery of the newly opened Royal Canal Cycleway. Refreshments will be served afterwards in The Richmond Inn, Clondra. The walk starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening 26th August.

Annaduff GAA lotto

At the draw held in McLoughlin’s of Drumsna, there was no Jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 15, 19, 22, 23. The 50 euro winner was Una and Des McNulty. The 25 euro winners were Sean, Ellie, Jamie Faughnan, Kieran Kelly, Trevor Webb, Sean Shanley. The next draw takes place in Duignan’s Bar on Sunday Night next with a Jackpot of €7,700.

Birthday greetings

We send birthday greetings to some locals celebrated their birthday recently, firstly to Daragh Gavigan, Rooskeynamona who had his birthday on Tuesday last, next to my good neighbour, Fionnuala who had her birthday on Sunday last, also Francis Hackett, Liscloonadea who celebrated her birthday on Saturday last and finally to Vincent McGuinness also from Liscloonadea who reached a milestone in his life last week and partied with family and friends in the Copper Still on Saturday night last. We wish you health and happiness for the future.
