Feast of Ascension
This feast day was celebrated on Sunday last which is normally celebrated 40 days after Easter. It is one of the several feast days in the Church’s calendar which has been moved to a Sunday, so as to enhance its celebration. Usually celebrated on a Thursday, it was always a day off school for the children.
The death occurred unexpectedly last week at the Mercy University Hospital, Cork, of Pat Campbell, Fourcuil, Clonakilty. Pat was a native of Drumbruckless, Loughduff and was a regular visitor to the parish and his last visit was only a few weeks ago. In his late 60s, he was a keen sportsman and had a special interest in beagle hunting, often accompanying the Clonakilty pack when they visited. He was of a jovial nature and had a quick wit and turn of phrase and was extremely popular both in Loughduff and his adopted Clonakilty. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Marion, children Irene, Corena, Anne, Michael and Laura and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Mike and is survived by brothers Tom and Tony, sister-in-law Marie, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends in Loughduff. The funeral took place on Thursday last from Clonakilty Parish Church to the local cemetery. May he rest in peace.
The passing of Roseanne Kiernan, Springlawn House, Granard in her 91st year is regretted over a wide area. Deceased was formerly Cooke from Pottlebawn, Kilcogy and was predeceased by her husband Tommie, who along with the late Tommie Quinn ran the Granada ballrooms in Granard and Kingscourt during the 50’s to the 70’s. Memories come floating back of dance crazy days, romances, showbands, learning to jive and having a mineral on the balcony. The weekend was a build up to the Sunday night dance until the carnivals started and then you could dance all week under the canvas. “Those were the days my friend, we thought they’d never end”.
We extend our sympathy to her sons and daughters and brother Pat and sister-in-law Helen, grandchildren and great grandchildren and members of her extended family circle. May she rest in peace.
