Blessing of graves
The annual blessing of graves took place in St Mary’s cemetery, Finea on Sunday morning last following 10.30am mass in St Mary’s Church. Many people no longer resident in the area travelled long distances to pay their respects to their deceased loved ones. All graves were very well presented and the weather remained dry and bright throughout the ceremony. The blessing of the graves will be held in St Michael’s cemetery, Castletown on Sunday morning next following the 10.30am Mass in the church.
All roads lead to Abbeylara on Sunday next June 8th for the annual “Field Day”. A variety of interesting items -incl tractor pulling event, dog show, car boot sale, fun fair, food stalls and stands, midget car racing, best dressed lady, threshing demonstration, tug o’ war etc. Adm 10 euro, children free. The late Mrs Teresa O’Reilly
The death took place peacefully at the General Hospital, Cavan on Wednesday, May 28th last of Mrs Teresa O’Reilly (nee Carty), Maughera, Finea, Co Cavan. Predeceased by her husband, Jack and daughter Margaret, Teresa was a member of an old and well respected farming family in the local community. She was of a very pleasant and friendly disposition and a most obliging neighbour. Her remains were removed to St Mary’s Church, Carrick on Thursday evening at 7pm. Interment took place in adjoining cemetery the next morning following requiem Mass at 11am. Deepest sympathy is extended to her loving sons Matt, Pete and Hugh, daughter Mary, son in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbors and many friends. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
