Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers began their walk on the outskirts of Coole on Sunday May 25th. Alice Nerney led the way on a loop walk out on the Multyfarnham road beside Coolnagun Bog to Shrubbywood where the wide open spaces of the bog were exchanged for a delightful green road which led through Derrya nearly to Coolure Harbour on Lough Derravaragh. The extensive views out over Coolnagun and beyond from the road outside Coole revealed the landscape in full summer condition now. There are many wooded areas, even in the bog, and the patchwork of different greens was a very pleasant vista. The green road’s route through a mix of small woods and fields was just a sample of the peaceful countryside. The blend of old stone farm buildings and newer houses with gardens full of flowers added to the enjoyment of the walk.

Saint’s Island beside Lough Ree and near Newtowncashel will be the Ramblers destination for their walk on Sunday June 8th. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet in Newtowncashel at 2.15pm.
