Congratulations Congratulations to local outgoing Fianna Fáil County Councillor, P.J Reilly who was re-elected as a member of Longford County Council for another term, following the counting of votes which took place in Newtownforbes recently. This is an excellent achievement for P.J and is great for our parish. We wish P.J the best of luck with his duties in the new Council and congratulations also to all the other elected Councillors in the electoral area.

Killeen Parents’ Association are holding a 5k ‘Fun’ - run/walk/jog fundraiser on Sunday, June 15 at 12pm - starting from McElvaney’s pub Coolarty. Registration will take place at McElvaney’s from 10.30am to 11.30am. Cost - €10 per adult, €5 per child (U16) or €20 per family. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard are currently enrolling for FETAC Level 5 Courses in Sports and Recreation, Childcare, Nursing Studies, Agriculture Business, Information Technology and Animal Care. These FETAC Level 5 Courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. They also provide links to certain courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology and can be worth up to 400 points. Adoration for Exam People
Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament for Exam People: - Will take place each Thursday during June in Carra Church with Holy Mass at 7.30pm followed by Adoration from 8 to 8.30pm, and each Friday during June in Abbeylara Church from 3 to 4pm. You are very welcome to come and spend some time adoring the Blessed Sacrament in peace and quiet. This is one good way to support our young people who are sitting examinations.
Friday, 6 June is the First Friday. The sick and housebound will be attended as usual. First Friday Confessions in Abbeylara Church at 7.00pm followed by First Friday Mass at 7.30pm.

Abbeylara Field Day takes place on Sunday June 8 where there will be lots of fabulous entertainment for children and adults which include the following: Steam Trashing Demonstration, Tractor Pulling, Pony and Trap Rides, Car Boot Sales, Egg and Spoon Races, 3 Legged Race, Tug-of-War for ladies and gents, Midget Car Racing, Bouncing Castles which are free to all Children, Vintage Tractors, a Dog Show with different Categories, and Bumping Car Rides. There will be also be a trophie for the best dressed Lady and Gent. There will food stalls and stands on the day boasting an array of home baking so all palettes will be catered for. There will also be music on the day. There will be free parking on the day and disabled parking close to the enterance of the field (Permit Holders Only). Admission on the day is €10 and children are free. All proceeds are in aid of our Parish Funds, therefore your support would be very much appreciated. Weight Watchers takes place in The Green, Edgeworthstown, every Wednesday morning at 11.30am and every Thursday evening at 8.00pm. New members are always welcome.
Our village is now starting to look its best, if only we can keep it that way. There’s a lot done and a lot to do, with a litter pick up every week. It is most important to pick up that one small sweet wrapper. One wrapper and we lose points, so be on the alert. Also the bottle bin area, bin it or take it home.
No draw as the €100 tickets are still on sale which we hope to have returned by Thursday, 5 June. Then we will be in a position to hold the first draw for the New Year, at which we will also have the draw for five by €100 prizes for fully paid up members.
The yearly tickets for Abbeylara GAA Club Lotto are now on sale around our parish. To purchase your ticket contact any of the players please. Your yearly ticket fully paid gives you entry into 52 weekly Lotto draws, which mostly takes place on Thursday nights, alternating between Crawford’s and The Mill tavern. Public Meeting for People in North Longford, takes place tonight, Wednesday 4 June in the Park House Hotel, Edgeworthstown at 8pm. This is a non political public meeting to discuss any issue you wish. It is your opportunity to exercise your freedom of speech. Anyone that wishes to attend this gathering is very welcome.
