ICA members honoured
On Thursday March 20th, a Gala Dinner and celebrations of long standing service to ICA members of 20, 30, 40 and 50 years membership took place, in Newcastle House, Ballymahon. ICA National Predident, Liz Wall was present to present the certificates. All guilds from Longford were represented, and a great night was had by all present. We congratulate four of our guild members who received certificates. Betty Creegan and Patrica Lennon for 20 years plus, Tess Murphy for 30 years plus and Peggy Cassidy for 50 years plus. We thank them for their years of dedication to the guild.

60th Longford-Dublin Association Annual Gala Dinner takes place in the Red Cow Moran’s Hotel on Saturday, April 12th, commencing at 8pm. Award recipients are Drumlish native, Liam Caldwell, and Tom Gilligan, a native of Abbeylara. Music is by country star, Mick Flavin, and his band. ‘Work4You’ set up by Acquired Brain Injury Ireland provides a free vocational assessment service for individuals who have an acquired brain injury and would like assistance and guidance in returning to work, training or education. It is free to anyone with an acquired brain injury and in receipt of a payment from the Dept. of Social Protection. Longford Toastmasters are holding a Table Quiz in Longford Rugby Club on Thursday the 27th of March at 9pm (team registration at 8.30pm). Table of four persons cost 40 euro. Raffle and spot prizes on the night. All welcome.
Dancing classes with Eamonn Cunniss will begin on Sunday March 23rd in the ‘98 Hall, Ballinamuck, from 6.30pm to 8pm, for six weeks. Classes are in Waltzing, Jiving, Quick Step, Shoe the Donkey, Stack of Barley, Line Dancing, or any other dance you may wish to learn. The classes are suitable for beginners or experienced dancers. Members and non-members are very welcome to come along. Adults €10, Students €5. Advance notice of the annual general meeting of the Guild which will take place on Monday, April 7th at 8.30pm in the Visitors Centre, Ballinamuck. Guest Speaker, Hilary O’ Brien, Homeopathy, will attend and speak to members. All present members are asked to attend, and new members are always welcome to join our Guild.

Drumlish Tidy Towns resume in earnest for the 2014 season from this Saturday morning, meeting at 10.00 a.m. opp. the Post Office on Main Street - new volunteers welcome, There are 400 marks over 10 categories in the National Tidy Towns competition and Drumlish has scored highly in all bar two which we hope to address this year: the Wildlife and Natural Amenities section and the Sustainable Waste & Resource Management section - we are currently addressing both for this year’s competition. The former means having an understanding of the natural amenities in our area as well as an appreciation of how creatures and habitats should be best protected and managed. We have made a good start with out new sanctuary for birds and bugs at our site beside the poly-tunnel on Main Street, also in collaboration with Drumlish Branch Library and St. Mary’s National School - a bio diversity walk / workshop has been planned for Saturday April 26th starting at the Library- the walk will take us to the Mill River and all the plants, bugs animals that we identify on the day will be counted and listed for insertion on a new Information Board in due course The Sustainable Waste & Resource Management – means promotion of best practice to reduce waste and improve resource management - in this our new composting area will be available for demonstrations, one of which will be announced shortly - Help us to score even higher in this year’s competition by joining our team on Saturday morning.
