Old graveyard

We advise persons who have graves in Killoe old graveyard to visit and check all headstones, some dated back to 1700, are intact, as due to the recent storms some headstones/crosses were damaged and may require repair or stabilisation. Congratulations to Carol Kelly, daughter of Christy and Cathy, Kilnacarrow Killoe who exchanged nuptial vows with Shane Cassidy, son of Sean and Breege, Kenagh, Longford joined by families and friends in St Mary’s Church Ennybegs, Killoe last week. Afterwards a reception was immensely enjoyed by everyone in the Cavan Crystal Hotel Cavan. The parish express good wishes to Shane, Carol and their families for a future filled with great health and happiness.

Suicide alertness

A safe suicide alertness programme will be held in Cullyfad Community Centre on Thursday, 3 April from 7-10pm. Guest speaker Mr Anthony O’Prey HSE Health Promotion Officer. This programme is community focused for all lay persons to raise awareness of people at risk of suicide. The training will prepare participants to be in a position to identify and recognise and learn how to provide practical help and support by using the steps of talk, tell, ask , listen and keep safe. Bon voyage

The parish extend every good wish to our Killoe native, Paul Devaney, son of Eileen (and late Pat), Esker, Killoe who will depart our shores on Sunday, 30 March to join with the elite group of less than 300 people worldwide to scale the final seventh summit “Everest” the highest point on planet earth. The expedition will take 60 days to complete in extreme cold and height. Being the first person to represent Longford and the midlands on this final expedition we wish Paul and his colleagues good luck. Keep the faith and may God be with you all.


The parish express sincere sympathy to Seamus and Bernadette Farrell, Highfield House, Clonkeen, Longford, sisters Tara, Charlotte, Caroline, grandfather, extended families, friends on the very sad bereavement of their son, brother and grandson, James who was laid to rest last week. Requiem mass was celebrated in St Brigid’s Church, Ardagh with burial in Moydow cemetery. May he rest peacefully.

Also the parish extend congratulations to Angela Reynolds, daughter of John (formerly Corlea, Killoe) and Rosie, Longford who exchanged nuptial vows with David Flaherty, son of Pascal and Mary, Longford who were joined by families and friends in St Mary’s Church, Lanesboro last week. A fine reception with plenty of music agus ceol was enjoyed in the Golf Hotel, Glasson, Athlone. We wish David, Angela and their families many many years of great health and happiness.
