The need for good governance to protect organisations’ reputations and funding has been clearly demonstrated during the recent debate on the CRC. To assist local community, voluntary and charity groups come to a greater awareness of the challenges of good governance, a workshop will be held in The Corn Mill Theatre & Arts Centre, Carrigallen on Thursday, 3 April at 8pm. There is no charge for attending. The workshop is being supported by County Community and Voluntary Forums and other local development groups and it will be facilitated by a member the Governance Code organisation, Senan Turnbull. The workshop will lend further support to organisations who wish to find out about “The Governance Code”. The guest speaker will set out the principles behind the Code and will explain the process groups should go through. There will be a question and answer session with the whole event lasting around and hour and a half.

St. Mary’s NS Parents Association held a meeting on Wednesday, 12 March to discuss fundraising. As grant aid from the Department of Education has unfortunately been cut, leaving a deficit, a fundraising committee was set up in order to help cover the day to day expenses of running the school. A series of fundraising events have been planned, the first of which is a raffle for a fabulous Easter Hamper that will be on display and lines may be purchased in local shops from this weekend.

There was no Jackpot winner and the four winners of €50 each were Fintan Gallogly, Andy Donohoe, Ray McBrien (14 Club), and Cathal Sheridan (14 Club). After their sell out performance last December, the Mohill based ‘Sweet Spirit Gospel Choir’ are delighted to be invited back to perform in St. George’s Heritage & Event Centre, Carrick on Shannon on Friday, 4 April. Part proceeds will go to St. Georges Church with a donation from the choir to Marie McKiernan for an orphanage in Ethiopia.
