Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday 6th January. Jackpot €5,100-00 – Numbers drawn 10 / 14 / 20 / 28 – No winner. €50 each – Pat Dolan, Corhanna. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The Croagh Patrick Challenge will take place on Saturday 8th February. A bus will leave Arva on that morning stopping for refreshments enroute. Following the climb participants will be brought to the hotel for an evening meal, Bed and Breakfast. This should be a good event for those taking part and anyone who has not yet got a Sponsorship Card can obtain one in the Post Office. The club would request everyone to leave their Sponsorship Cards and money into the Post Office by 31st January at the latest so that numbers can be confirmed with the Hotel.
The GAA Club will hold a raffle on 16th March with the 1st prize a Trailer load of Stick’s, 2nd Prize - 10 Bags of Coal and 3rd Prize - 30 Bales of Briquettes. Tickets are on sale priced at €2-00 or 3 tickets for €5-00. All support appreciated.

The Arva GAA CD titled Davitt’s is available in most business houses in the town. This is a first class recording by younger members of the club and is very enjoyable. All money from the sale of the CD will go directly into the club so we encourage everyone to support it.
Cavan Footballers are going well since the start of the year with two wins in the Dr Mc Kenna Cup against Antrim and Down while the U 21 team have two wins in the Hastings Cup over Offaly and Mayo. Tonight Wednesday Cavan play Jordanstown in the Dr Mc Kenna Cup and on Saturday the U 21 team play Longford (check fixtures list for venue). A win for each team would put them into their respective semi finals so we wish them continued success.
Motor Neurone Disease
The annual Church Gate collection for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association will be taken up this weekend. Your generous support would be much appreciated. The money raised go directly towards helping those with Motor Neurone Disease and is not used to top up any staff wages. Look up IMNDA.ie for more details.
After all the excesses of Christmas the perfect way to get back in shape is to join a 6 week Exercise / Keep Fit class which commenced in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva on Tuesday night last 7th January. The Parish Finance Committee decided last year that the Envelope Year for the Arva and Coronea areas should begin in January and not July as was the case and thus harmonising the Parish system. These envelopes are now available in both churches. The Priest’s of the Parish thank everyone for their generosity as the weekly collection pays the bills – Heating, Lighting, renovation’s etc. The Dues collection goes to pay for our Clergy as each Parish is now independently responsible for the upkeep of its Priest’s.
