Margaret Harte RIP
Recently, the sad death took place of Margaret Hart, (nee O’Neill), Killahurk, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, Carraig Álainn, (Beautiful Rock) as she referred to it so fondly and so longingly in her last illness. Margaret was born 22 March 1916, the second of seven children of James and Margaret O’Neill, Killahurk, Carrigallen. Margaret, gentle and unassuming in manner, was a proud Leitrim woman, rooted in its history and traditions. She attended Carrigallen NS, a pupil of Master Paddy and Ms. King – where she received such a rounded education. There she gained a love of and fluency in the Gaelic tongue, something she treasured all her life. As a young woman she went ahead to hold positions in Northern Ireland and in the UK, and afterwards in the Department of Agriculture here at home. In 1948 she married Frank Harte, Birr, Co Offaly. Theirs was a love-story written in Heaven which spanned 55 years. They had four children. Living firstly in Birr they settled in Sandymount¸ Dublin in the early 60’s. Margaret was the heart of her family. She was a keen gardener and needlewoman and a splendid cook, happiest when offering a meal, breads or cakes to all who come to her home – her Christmas pudding was legendary.
With the arrival of her grandchildren her world was complete. At her knee, as did her children, they learned to smile, read and to pray. With Frank, their most precious gift to their family, after that of themselves, was their treasured faith. Margaret was a true and gently lady - ní bheidh a leithead ann arís. Sympathy is extended to her daughters Maureen and Jacinta; son Francis; brother Jack (Carrigallen); sisters-in-law; brother-in-law; grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was held in St Brendan’s Church, Birr, Co Offaly with Burial to Clonoghill Cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
Carrigallen and Drumeela Active Age
Carrigallen and Drumeela Active Age finished their series of activities for 2013 with their Annual Christmas Party, held at Kilbrackan Arms Hotel. The evening was enjoyed by all those attending, with wonderful food and excellent company! The icing on the cake was the €200 raised on the evening from a raffle, proceeds going to the local branch of St Vincent de Paul. Our last day-trip for 2013 was to Galway for the Continental Christmas Market – but we enjoyed the shopping centres too! We still have some more sessions of Zumba Dancing/Yoga to come with Julie Smith, and will be organising dates very soon. Happy New Year to all our members and their families!

Senior Citizens Christmas Party – Thank you!
Carrigallen /Drumreilly Community Care held their Annual Christmas party in the Kilbrackan Arms on 8 December. A very large crowd was in attendance. Music was provided by Michael Moran and Country Roads. Entertainment also included a visit from our own Eileen Ward, John McCartin, Fr. D. Murray, Francis Good, Tom Foley, Sam Fisher and Bridie McHugh. The committee would like to extend a sincere thank you to everybody who made donations on the day, to all the business people in the area who gave spot prizes and to everybody who helped out on the day. Without these donations, it would be impossible to hold this event. A special thank goes to Donal and staff for a lovely meal provided on the day and enjoyed by everybody.
