The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday 28th October. The Jackpot was €4,600 – Numbers drawn were 1/ 23 / 24 / 38. No winner – €50 winners - Brian Fitzpatrick, Arva. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. League: Arva had to travel to Corduff, Co Monaghan on Sunday morning last to play Shercock in the last round of the Brady’s Arva Division 3 League and came away with a win on the score Arva 2-8 Shercock 1-8. Arva were already promoted and the only reason for this game was to decide who finished in top place in the League table. Challenge: The football club fundraising venture will take place on Saturday 16th November called the Croagh Patrick Challenge / Clew Bay Walk. As the name suggests the club is challenging people to climb the Holy Mountain or for those not able to instead do the Clew Bay Walk. A bus will leave St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 7.30 that morning – stopping enroute for refreshments. Participants will have use of the leisure facilities in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport that evening to ease away the pains. Sponsorship Cards are available in Arva Post Office and the club is hoping for a good response.

Church Services

For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – This Sunday 10th November Remembrance Service in Carrigallen at 10am and in Arva at 11.30 am. Service of Holy Communion in Columbkille at 10.00 am and in Gowna at 11.30 am.

Table Quiz

On this Friday 15th November in the Piker’s Lodge Hotel, Lough Gowna at 8.30pm. All welcome. Proceeds for Gowna Parish Church. Admission €10 adults, €5 children. Prizes for 1st and 2nd tables and prizes for best Children’s table.


Country Gospel Concert will take place in Derrylane Parish Church on this Saturday night 9th November at 8.00 pm with Colin Elliott and Live Issues. There is an invitation to everyone to attend with Tea served afterwards in the Hall.

Christmas appeal

St. Mary’s National School, Arva are participating in the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. There are leaflets available in the Post Office for anyone who would like to donate a shoe box. All boxes must be left into the school by this Thursday 7th November 2013.

Bon Voyage

We say Bon Voyage to Alan Gray, Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva who has returned to continue his studies in University in New Zealand. He had been home for the past few months and had a memorable holiday, winning the Busking competition at the Gathering Festival and joining up with his friends in the football club. He entertained the attendance at a farewell party in the Breffni Arms on Saturday week last and a hugely enjoyable night was had by all.

Line Dancing

Classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel every Thursday night at 8.30 pm for Beginners and at 9.30 pm for the more advanced. Everyone is welcome so come along and enjoy a night of dancing and exercise in a friendly environment.

Active Age

Will have their annual outing for Christmas on Wednesday of next week 13th November. A bus will depart St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 9.30 am going to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. A meal has been organised on the return home at 5.30 pm in Lisgray House, Virginia. The cost for members is €30 all included and is €35 for non members. The Christmas Dinner will take place in the Breffni Arms Hotel on Wednesday 11th December at 7.30 pm – Admission is €5-00. Practice each Tuesday in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva at 8.30 pm. New members always welcome especially musicians.

The monthly meeting of the Arva Area Development Association will be held on Monday night next 11th November at 8.30 pm in the Breffni Arms Hotel. All members are requested to attend and new members always welcome. Arrangements will be made for the Switching on of the Christmas Lights and the annual visit of Santa Clause to the town on Saturday 14th December.
