The first annual Carrigallen Trad Fest took place in and around Carrigallen last weekend. It was a serious weekend of music, songs and devilment. The academy was a huge success with over sixty children getting intense tuition from some of music’s greatest legends. According to the organiser John McCartin the “Corn Mill Theatre Carrigallen gig was an absolute pleasure to do and the audience were just fantastic. Of course, the session trail brought us a blast of mighty tunes, tall stories and sore heads”. John would like to thank all the musicians and tutors Eleanor Shanley, Liam Kelly, Pádraig MacSamhráin, John Daly, Christopher Maguire, Aishling McPhillips, Daithí Gormley, Caoimhe Kearins, Deirdre Hurley, Donal O’Reilly, Martin Smith, Cein Sweeney and Ronan Sweeney. ‘Can’t wait to do it all again next year’!

Parents of preschool children are especially invited to attend and anyone with an interest in the proposal. Representatives from other Gaelscoileanna will attend to outline how similar schools operate and the benefits of attending a Gaelscoil.

Carrigallen and Drumeela Active Age is getting ‘active’ again!
At a recent meeting it was agreed that we need to get back to some regular exercise classes, but perhaps with a bit of a twist! Julie Smith will be leading the sessions and has offered to begin each evening with a few selected Zumba dance moves, after that winding down with some relaxing Yoga. We plan to have three weekly sessions before Christmas, and three sessions starting in the New Year. Sounds different, we can’t wait! We are also planning a day trip to the Galway Continental Christmas Market at the beginning of December – just the place, we understand, to find something special for that person who has everything. And of course our annual Christmas Party must not be forgotten!
