Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Club Rooms on Monday night 19th August. The Jackpot was €4,100 – Numbers drawn were 13/ 15 / 16 / 30. No winner – €50 winners - Willie Ward, Arva. Padraig Mc Cabe, Cormore. Jordan Montgomery, Drumcarey. The Lotto Jackpot on Monday last 26th August was €4,150-00. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection on Monday evenings and everyone is welcome to attend the draw. The club have an option of paying by direct debit for anyone wishing to join the LOTTO and give the club much needed support. League: On Saturday evening last Arva had Kill as visitors to Michael Cully Park for a game in the Brady’s Arva Division 3 League and after a very tough encounter the home side came out on top by 2 points 1-8 to 0-9. Church Services

For the Arva Church of Ireland Parish Group – Sunday 1st September - Service of Holy Communion in Carrigallen at 10am and in Arva at 11.30am. Service of Morning Prayer at 10.00 am in Coulmbkille and at 11.30 am in Gowna.


Anyone in hospital who would like a Pastoral visit from their local Clergy should make it known to the relevant person as due to patient confidentially the clergy are not allowed to check the hospital lists as had been the case.


Rev Eamonn Bredin bade farewell to his parishioners at all masses last weekend following a series of changes announced by Bishop Leo O’Reilly. Originally destined for Doobally in West Cavan Fr Eamonn announced that this has been changed and he will now reside in Drumnavannagh, Cavan town and will minister in the Drumlin Group of Parishes. He also said that if anyone was in Hospital in Cavan he would be delighted to visit them if they so wished. We wish Fr Eamonn well in his new appointment and also wish him good health in the years ahead.

Our Lady’s Hospital

The recent Church gate collection taken up in Arva for Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin amounted to €389-14. The organisers wish to thank everyone who donated so generously.


The Annual Church Gate Collection for St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan will be taken up this weekend – Saturday 31st August / Sunday 1st September. Your generous support would be greatly appreciated.


Arva Agricultural Show Society will hold a meeting this Thursday 29th August at 9.30pm in the Resource Centre, Market Square, Arva. All Members please attend. New members always welcome.

School reopens

Moyne Community School has re-open with 1st Year students only in yesterday. On today Wednesday 28th they will welcome 1st , 3rd,5th Year and LCA Students while on tomorrow Thursday all students will attend. We wish them all well in their studies.

Saturday Night’s Raffle in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva is called ‘Free Money Saturday’ and on Saturday night last there was no winner. Crumlin Hospital

There will be a Fundraising Night in Hughie’s on this Saturday 24th August for Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin. This year Hughie will be Trekking in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco next October and will welcome all sponsorship for this very worthy cause. Music on the night will be provided by Seamus Farrell , refreshments will be served and it promises to be a great night.

Craft and gift fair

Sunday 1st September 2013in the Farnham Arms Hotel, Main Street, Cavan Town from 11am to 6pm. A function is being held in Newtowngore Hall on Friday 6th September to raise funds for the ongoing medical care of Danika Mc Manus who is in hospital in Australia suffering from the condition “Guillain Barre Syndrome” and will require treatment for approximately 1 year. Danika is a daughter of John and Bríd Campbell McManus (Newtowngore & Blacklion) and subscriptions are voluntary. Doors open at 9 o’clock and music is by Paul Corrigan and Michael Donohoe. Donations can also be made directly through Ballinamore and Carrigallen Credit Union.

‘The Quare Land’

A play starring Seamus O’Rourke and Shane Carroll takes place on Saturday 28th September 2013 in the Breffni Arms Hotel Arva with proceeds going to Saint Christopher’s Hospice Cavan.
