LOTTO JACKPOT NOW AT €9,000: Draw Monday 17th March results. The numbers drawn were5, 16, 19 & 27. The drawn winners are Lisa Fulham, Kate Clune and Paul Keenan. The RCD have removed the option of the 3 number winners and replace it with three envelopes to be drawn out of the drum at every draw and for the ticket holders to win €30 each. This means that you are in with a chance to win €30 even if you don’t have any of the winning numbers drawn. You can now buy 3 tickets for €5, if you have any queries when buying a ticket just ask the seller. The next draw is 1st April in Connaughton’s Pub. Thank you to all who buy a ticket, you are helping to support local projects and the next big project is to develop the rest of the RCD field into a community park. This project will take place in the next month as the RCD has now secured funding. Tickets can be brought in Rathowen Post Office, Connaughtons Pub, along with several people selling. LADIES WEIGH IN: The ladies had their final weigh in on Saturday 30th with a total loss of 83lbs over 13 weeks which was very impressive for the group of 11 women. Well done ladies !!
COMMUNITY TEXT ALERTS: The newly formed Community Alert committee have been hard at work setting up the text alert programme, so if you would like to join and receive Garda Text Alerts, please collect a application form from Rathowen Post Office and drop it back to Angela or Lorraine in the Post Office along with €20 (cover cost of insurance, affiliation to Muire na Tire and texts) for the year. Text alerts will be up and running for the Rathowen Community by April 22nd. Any queries please contact a committee member!!!
SYMPATHY: The death of Eilish Tighe (nee Dolan) formally Edgeworthstown, Rathowen and Legan occurred last Thursday with her funeral mass held on Easter Saturday. Eilish died with her family and friends all around her and we send our sincere sympathy to her children Susan, Paul, Catherine, Damien, Eileen and Pauric and to Paddy and Anthony, and her many grandchildren and extended family. May she rest in peace. We offer our sympathy to the Wright family of Baratogher on the death of Freddie’s brother William Wright and also to the McCabe family Multyfarnham on the death of Bert McCabe may they rest in peace.
RATHOWEN TIDY TOWNS: Rathowen Tidy Towns started the spring clean of the village last Saturday from 10am to 11am for the litter picking. We need more help and all will be out again this Saturday morning from 10 to 11am, as the old saying goes many hands makes light work!!! Please come out and help.
LEGAN VINTAGE CLUB: Legan vintage club are holding a raffle in aid of the DPOL 1st prise is a Massey Ferguson 20 Tvo. Tickets cost €5 per ticket or a book of five tickets for €20 tickets can be got from any club member. Draw will take place in the village house Rathowen on 5th of October 2013

BABY BOYS: Congratulations to first time parents Ada and Ken Cunningham on the birth of their first child a little boy called Andrew James Farrar Cunningham born Sunday 24th March. Ada is the daughter of Johnny and Ethel Farrar in Winetown and we send our best wishes to the new parents. Congratulations also to Margaret Coffey and Pauric Gloss on the birth of their second son last week, a little brother for Amy & Jamie.
COMMUNITY GAMES: “Locals in the area are looking to set up rathowen community games. We are hoping to get as many people involved as possible so we can get it up and running ASAP. We need people with fundraising ideas and locals with a keen interest to form a strong committee”
RETIRED TEACHERS: Midland Retired Secondary Teachers Association will hold AGM on Tues April 9th at 11:30am in Longford Library. Lunch will follow and we then travel to Longford Garden Centre, Drumlish Road for 3pm where Laura Shaw will give demonstration and answer questions on all things related to gardening.
