Tidy Towns: Our next meeting takes place on Friday 5 April 8.30pm. We are having our Spring Fundraiser on weekend of Sat/Sun 5 April with a cake sale after all masses, ladies and gents it is that time again to get on the aprons and bake something nice, tarts, sponge cakes, boxty, brown bread, fruit cakes and buns.
Dinner dance: The 59th Longford -Dublin Association Annual Gala Dinner takes place in the Red Cow Morans Hotel, Dublin on Sat 13th April commencing at 8pm sharp. Award recipients this year are Abbeyshrule community and Killoe man, Frank Kiernan. Music by singer Noel Cassidy and his band. A most enjoyable night is guarantee to all. Patrons may overnight in the hotel at a special rate of 79 euro per couple, which includes breakfast. Active Retirement: Abbeylara Active Retirement is going to Youghal Co. Cork on 10 June. Monday to Friday, 4/5 day trip all inclusive €249 for members and €261 for non members. There are only a few seats left as this promises to be a very enjoyable break with day trips to the Titanic Centre in Cobh, Jameson Distillery in Middleton, day trip to Cork City, Mount Mellery Abbey and Ardmore in Co. Fundraising Night: The Park House Hotel presents its 2nd Annual Fundraising Night in aid of M.W.B. Autism Support Group on Friday 5 April 2013. Dancing on the night to King of Country Music, Mick Flavin. There will also be Special Guests on the night and various spot prizes. Admission is €10. The doors open at 9 pm and dancing is from 10 pm to 1am. A great night’s entertainment is promised.

The Granada Festival Granard: Great to see the Line up for the Marquee taking shape: Friday 5 July Jimmy Buckley and His Band preceded by Chuck and June, Saturday 6 July Audiopilot, Sunday July Festival Queen Selection followed by Gina Dale Haze And the Champions. It is hoped to have a display of Granada memorabilia during the weekend, so if anybody has any photos, programs, tickets, posters, plans, outfits etc., it would be minded and returned. Promises to be a great weekend of Music and Entertainment!
Cemetery Sunday & Field Day: On Sunday 4 August it is planned to have a Gathering Event for the community with a family field day in the St. Mary’s GAA grounds following the religious ceremonies. There will be loads of family entertainment organised on the day and an ideal opportunity for friends and family from far and wide to meet up.
1798 Commemoration Weekend: Friday 6 September Granard Opening Event, walking tour of battle sites and followed by entertainment. Saturday 7 September Ballinamuck Unveiling of new signs, tour of battle site, mass and music. Sunday 8 September Ardagh Walk to leader’s grave, historical talks and followed by entertainment.

Community Diary: A Diary is available at Granard Area Action Group office to enable local voluntary groups and fundraising events to log their forthcoming activities for the year so as to help co-ordinate events successfully and to avoid duplication where possible.
MABS: An adviser from MABS (Money Advice and Budgeting Service) is in attendance at Granard Area Action Group office each Monday morning from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
Citizens Information: An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office Main Street Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Rural Transport Programme: We would always welcome new passengers on board the services; it is open to ALL AGE GROUPS, with FTP holders travelling Free. Single Fare is €3 and Return is €5, for under 65 years. For our local region of Granard/Abbeylara, there are 2 Friday services into Granard = via Robinstown – Abbeylara – Creevy/Cloughernal and in the Afternoon = via Derragh – Killasonna – Lisryan to Granard. Our STOP and DEPARTURE Point is from the Granard Area Action Group Office on Main Street. The Rural Transport office is based in LCRL Longford, Phone 043 3345555. All information is on the www.lcrl.ie website, under the Rural Transport Programme. Information can also be accessed from the GAAG office, Main Street, Granard.
