THEFT: Over the weekend of March 23rd and 24th last thieves struck the historic battle site in Clonfin and stole all the recently planted laurel hedging. On Sunday evening members of the committee noticed that some of the shrubs were missing and reported the matter to the guards in Granard but to every one’s horror the thieves struck again on Sunday night/Monday morning and removed the remaining shrubs. It is so sad to think that in 1921 the brave men under the command of General Sean McEoin fought and defeated the British auxiliaries on this spot and that ninety two years later cowards, with no respect for those great men or for those who keep their memory alive, will go in under the dark of night and uproot a few little plants. The committee involved in Clonfin are a voluntary group who depend completely on donations from the general public or on grants from the local authority so this is a major set back. What can one say... SHAME ON YOU COWARDS.
NIGHT NAVIGATION WINNERS: Belated congratulations and well done to Liam Higgins and his Co-pilot Andrew Mackeral who were the winners of the Midland Motor Club Night Navigation Trial held in Dromard recently.
