Art & Model Making competition: Well done to our our local children who took part in the County Art and Model Making competition held in Kenagh recently . The participants were Ella Mc Kenna, Cian Gray, Sinead Mc Kenna, Eoin Murtagh, Linda Heaney, Laura Doyle and Michael Mc Kenna who competed in the art. TheModel Making participants were Ciara Culliney, David Mc Kenna and Cathal Culliney. Congratulations to our medal winners Linda Heaney Gold -U12 Art and Cathal Culliney Gold -U14 Model making, and David Mc Kenna and Ciara Culliney who took home silver medals for U10 Model Making.

Fundraising Raffle: A fundraising Raffle is underway by Leigh Casey Newtownforbes. It will be held in Casey’s Newtownforbes on Saturday night next February 2nd. The proceeds of this raffle will enable Leigh to go to Tanzania on a volunteer teaching and care programme for disadvantaged children. Tickets are €2 each ,3 for €5 and 6 for €10. These are available at all local venues in Newtown and at the Post Office, Centra and Village Flowers in Drumlish. I also have tickets should you require them. Your support would be greatly appreciated. The prizes include €200 travel voucher; Dinner for 2 in Viewmount House worth €100 and €50 worth of fuel at Byrnes Topaz. Plus other prizes. As Leigh is my niece I wish her well in her endeavours and hope her trip to Tanzania is both successful and enjoyable.

Community Celebrations: A meeting for the community centre celebrations and the gathering 2013 will take place in the centre on Wednesday next 23rd at 9:30. Final post of the White Collar Boxing: What an AMAZING night. It completely surpassed all our expectations. A huge thanks to the boxers ; what a show they put on! Thanks to the trainers; Gerry and Barry. Also to our MC; John “lets get ready to rumble” Duffy, no one could do better. Thanks to the referee Ciaran. Job Seeking Skills Programme: Employment, Development & Information Centre (EDI Centre) Longford identified a need to assist unemployed jobseekers in Job Search, CV Preparation, interview skills & mock interviews. Due to the high level of unemployment locally, a need for this service emerged. This service operated in 2012 and exceeded all expectations and will continue in Partnership with Longford Community Resources Ltd., at the
EDI Centre: This programme provides a range of facilities and services to support those who are unemployed, in training, in a part time or low paid employment, to assist and enhance their prospects with their job seeking endeavours. It will also provide information on employment rights and entitlements, training & education programmes while also providing access to on line computer service to assist with employment opportunities. Anyone can avail of this programme. Training takes place on an ongoing basis’s to build the ability and skills of people to seek employment. Clients will be assessed and directed into the programme most suited to their needs. The Service will operate on Thursday mornings from 10.00 am – 1.00pm.
