CROKE PARK: Many congratulations to the Ballymahon /Forgney U8 footballers who made their debut in Croke Park on Tuesday 12th July and their celebrations were all the better when the young team beat Wicklow by 19pts to 16. A great day out was enjoyed by the young people and of course the large group who travelled up with them. Great credit is due to the chief organiser of the day Paul Kelly and also to the coaches Tom Walsh Phillip Quinn Seamus Finlass and Enda Connaughton. On the team were Jack Walsh, Ryan Noonan, Jamie Noonan Harvey Townsend Morgan Townsend Darragh Finlass Shane Quinn Finn Heneghan Tyrone Moylan Aaron Devlin Clayon Shine Ryan Ward Chris Killian Shane Bawle, Patrick Conaughton San Connaughton Liam McGee and Lee Nestor. MONSTER AUCTION: Longford branch of the Friends of Children of Cherbnobyl will be holding a monster auction in Kenagh Community centre on this Saturday 23rd July at 3pm, viewing starts at 1pm. No commission fee to be paid. All of the funds raised will be used to help young children from Chernobyl who were affected by the Nuclear accident some years ago. Anyone with unwanted items kitchen ware farm tools gifts bric a brac garden produce good toys etc are asked to donate them for this very worthy cause. Your support will be greatly appreciated. PEACE WALK: The peace Walkers who walk annually from Dublin to Knock will be arriving in Ballymahon on this Thursday at approx 5pm. There will be a mass in St Matthews Church for the walkers and anyone else who wishes to join the group at around 8pm. Because of this there will be no 10am Mass on Thursday morning July 21st.
HAYMAKING FESIVAL: Midland Horse Draft Association are organising a haymaking festival in David Mulvihill’s farm at Lisnaskey Ballymahon on this Saturday July 24th from 1pm. All machines will be drawn by horse or manually operated as they will be using machinery and equipment from the last century. At least ten pairs of horses will be on the field at any one time. There will also be amusements side show and refreshments available on the day. We wish the organisers every success and hopefully the weather will stay dry for the occasion, sounds like a great day out for all ages.
CLUB 91:The club ended another very successful year with their chairperson Mai thanking everyone for the smooth running of the club ,also the committee the musicians Pauline who keeps the water boiling for the welcome cup of tea and especially the loyal members without whom the club could not function. Sympathy was extended to club member Maureen Donlon on the sudden death last week of her sister Betty RIP. So until September have a nice Summer everyone , hope the weather keeps up.
ELIZABEH BROSNAN RIP: It was with deep regret that we learned of the sudden death last week of Mrs Elizabeth Brosnan (nee Draper) Marian Villas Ballymahon. A lovely quiet and gentle lady who liked nothing better than going out for a daily walk with her dog. Elizabeh lived with her family in London for a long number of years and returned to live in her native Ballymahon 9 years ago. Her remains were removed from her home in Marian Villas to St Mathews Church and she was laid to rest at Forgney Cemetery on Saturday last following the funeral Mass which was attended by her family relatives neighbours and many friends. We extend our deepest sympathy to Elizabeth’s son Michael daughters Noreen and Lorraine who all live in London to her sisters Maureen (Ballymahon) Marie (Creevaghor) Ann (Cloncullen) Eleanor and Kathleen (London) and brother Jim (London) and to all her relatives and friends. May God grant rest to her soul.
FUNDRAISING RAFFLE: Ballymahon and District Credit Union Ltd recently held a fundraising raffle in aid of the Convent House Dar Care and Resource Centre. A total of 2,050 euro was raised for the centre.
