CEMETERY SUNDAY: On Sunday next the 24th July cemetery Sunday mass and blessing of graves will take place in Abbeyshrule cemetery at 11am. On Sunday evening, July 24, Cemerety Sunday Mass and blessing of the graves takes place at Abbeyderg Cemetery at 7pm. All plot holders in Abbeyshrule and Abbeydreg graveyards are asked to do a cleanup of plots during this week. On Sunday July 31, Mass and the blessing of graves will take place in Carrickedmond Cemetery at 11am. Please note that due to Cemetery Sunday in Abbeyshrule on Sunday, July 24 , the vigil Mass which normally takes place in Abbeyshrule will instead be celebrated in Carrickedmond Church at 8pm.
AREA ENHANCEMENT: LCRL has secured funding to help local communities create an area enhancement plan and implement practical projects shaping the community’s external environment. In order to guide the community towards identifying local needs, our community must come together and express an agreed vision. The funding will help us do that. Ideas will be presented at a community exhibition evening in the Rustic Inn on Thursday, July 21 at 8.30pm. Representatives from all groups and clubs are invited to attend and avail of the opportunity to submit their ideas.
CYCLING GROUP: The local cycling group will hold its next get togeather on Monday, July 25. The meeting place for all cyclists will be in the car park at Carrickedmond church at 7pm. New people are invited to come along and join in the cycle all you need is your bicycle and helmet. Children are also welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. THANKS: On behalf of Our Ladies Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin – Attracta and Declan Bohan would like to thank all people from the parish who so generously supported their annual Church Gate Collection which was taken up on the weekend of the 9th and 10th July. A special word of thanks also to the collectors who gave of their time and support over the weekend.
KEYS FOUND: A set of keys were recently found inside the gate of Abbeyshrule Cemetery. The owner can have these keys returned by contacting Fr Tiernan.
SUMMER CAMP: The Longford GAA Cul Camp is taking place this week in Moran Park, Carrickedmond. Hopefully the camp is enjoyed by all the young boys and girls. We also wish for good weather so as the camp can run smoothly throughout the week.
DEATH: Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of the late Sylvia Dawson who passed away recently at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar. Sylvia would have been known very well to many families in the parish through her association and great work over a long number of years with St Christopher’s Service for special needs located on the Battery Road, Longford. Sylvia was also a founding member of the service. May she rest in peace.
BEST OF LUCK: Best wishes to the Carrickedmond senior team who take on county champions Longford Slashers in the next round of the Longford Senior Championship in Keenan Park Ardagh on Saturday evening next at 8pm. All supporters from the parish are urged to turn out on the evening and cheer on the local team in this important championship fixture.
BEST WISHES: To Ms. Miriam Walsh teacher in Colehill N.S. who is doing volunteer work in an orphanage in Moldova this summer. No doubt her special talents and commitment will be greatly appreciated in Moldova. Here is to hoping she has a very pleasant and rewarding experience in Moldova. All the boys and girls from the parish look forward to seeing Miriam back home for the new school term in September.
AIR-SHOW: The Abbeyshrule fly-in and air-show will take place in Abbeyshrule air-field on the weekend of the 20th and 21st August. There will be lots of entertainment for the family over the weekend in County Longford’s tidiest village. More information nearer the date.
WELCOME HOME: Welcome home Séan Delaney who was in hospital following an illness. Great to see Séan home and back to good health again.
ALTER SERVERS TOUR: A tour for altar servers from the parish will take place on Tuesday, August, 2 next. All altar servers are asked to contact Fr Tiernan before next weekend on (044) 9357442 to confirm if you are available to come on the tour.
SINCERE SYMPATHY: Is extended to Séan O’Neill and family, Colehill on the death last week of his father Johnny O’Neill, Ardagh. Johnny was a very quiet and inoffensive man. He was a great GAA supporter and was a regular at all the Carrickedmond games when his son Séan transferred to the Carrickedmond club back in the 1990’s. May he rest in peace.
