Streete & District

DANCE: The big news this week is that we are holding another dance in our new Ramblers Country Club in Streete Parish Park Sports Complex on Friday July 29.  Music will be supplied by The Outlaws band.  Admission will be €15 and a great night’s entertainment is guaranteed.  Please help us promote this new venture by telling someone else.  Our last dance was a great success where we had Robert Mizzell.  Any monies available from our dances will go to help us provide the walkway around our Parish Park which will benefit everyone.  Table service as before will be available so remember, Friday night, 29th.  Any queries call (087) 9287129. BOXING: Thanks to Caroline Lambden secretary of the organising committee for the recent White Collar Boxing at Fiddlers Green, Streete.  I quote, “we wish to offer our most sincere appreciation and gratitude, for all your support in making the White Collar Boxing night, a successful one”. We had a huge number of people turn out to support the event, and we raised much needed funds for the Tidy Towns and Boherquill church. In return for your support you will notice some recent investments we have made in the village, and we will continue to do so throughout the year, with the funds you have contributed. We would acknowledge Westmeath County Council, who continue to support our ideas and work with us to help local people make a difference to our own area and make our village an attractive place to live. THANKS: To the many people who sent emails stating their enjoyment and appreciation of their annual visit to our Vintage Day in Streete.  We are glad to hear all good reports of our efforts. PRIDE OF PLACE: There was a really good attendance at our Pride of Place meeting last week. The next meeting is on Tuesday of this week and will be reported on next week.  Any photos of interest welcome.  Judging of our parish in Co. Westmeath is Wednesday, July 26. FACEBOOK: Keep up to date with Streete Parish Park events on Facebook.  If you contact us we will reply and keep you up to date.  Any sports bookings outdoor or indoor please call Jimmy on (087) 9287129. WILDLIFE CLUB: The club was busy over the last weekend running the pool clay shoot at the Ballinlough Castle Country Fair. We thank all the members who helped out over the weekend, and for making the event a success for the club. On behalf of the club we thank Bill Beckett, Fair Director and his staff for all their help and assistance beforehand and over the weekend. The final date for paying club membership for this year is next Monday, July 25. BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: The Ramblers met in Multyfarnham on last Sunday, July 17 for a walk that included a visit to the shore of Lough Derravaragh at Donore. On next Sunday, July 24, John and Frank Higgins will lead the Ramblers on a new walk starting at Collinstown. Cars will leave Boherquill at 2pm sharp and meet at Collinstown church at 2:15pm. The walk will cross fields so boots should be worn. Details of the Ramblers trip to Clare Island from Friday, September 2-4 can be obtained from Brian Nerney on (086) 2596656.
