Arva had Killygarry as visitors to Michael Cully Park, Arva on Saturday evening last for a Reserve League game while on Sunday they welcomed Maghera for a game in the Division 3 League. Both games were eagerly contested with the home side emerging victorious on each occasion by the minimum 1-6 to 0-8. The second half lasted for all of 45 minutes as two Arva players were injured – one feared seriously who was taken by Ambulance to hospital but was thankfully released later. Arva are away to Mountnugent on Saturday evening at 7.30 pm in Division 3 and they are away to Crosserlough in the Reserve League on Sunday at 1.00 pm while they have to travel to Corlough on the following Wednesday 18th May for a postponed Division 3 game at 8.00 pm.

The Arva Club are starting their own Lotto in the next few weeks and are looking for students to sell envelopes. Anyone interested should give their names to Club Secretary Siobhán O’ Hara. The club are hoping that this fundraising will go a long way to financing the needs of the club and will cover all age groups including the Ladies club. There is great work ongoing within the club and children from u-8 upwards are coached in the skills of the game. It is to be hoped that the community will support all this good work

Arva Ladies Football

Training for all underage girls on Saturday morning at 11.00 am. The Ladies club would like to thank everyone who supported their recent Cake Sale - those who baked, helped out on the day and those who purchased the cakes. It was a great success.

Community Games

A Community Games Running Event is to be held at Cornafean Park on Sunday 15th May at 5pm. All children up to the age of 16yrs from the Arva, Killeshandra and Cornafean areas are welcome, we look forward to seeing you for a fun evening.”

FOROIGE

The children at Foróige held an all night stay awake before Easter in St. Patrick’s Hall, Arva and raised Two Hundred Euro for Trócaire. Last Friday the children renewed all flower boxes for St. Mary’s N.S., Arva. Foróige continues until the end of May on Fridays at 7.30 pm.

Bingo

Bingo continues every Sunday night with a great attendance in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva. There is over €3,000 in prizes on offer with two panels worth €500 each. With the prize money that is on offer it is rightly seen as one of the best sessions in the region – Eye’s down 9.00 pm sharp.

Swimming

Children Swimming Lessons started on Saturday last 7th May at the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex. There may still be a few places available - Contact Helen O Hara 049-4335084. Irish Water Safety Swimming and Life Saving classes on Gartylough Lake, Arva will commence this year on 4th July due to the fact that St Mary’s National School will not be getting holidays until the end of June.

Active Age

Arva Active Age are making a 4 day trip to Killarney – 3 B&B / 4 Dinners – from Monday 13th June to Thursday 16th June staying in the Gleneagle Hotel and including daily tours and nightly

entertainment. The all inclusive price is €250 for club members and €299 for non members – per person sharing while there is a single supplement of €15 per night. The bus will leave St Patrick’s Hall, Arva at 9.30 am sharp on Monday 13th and arrive home at approximately 8.00 pm on Thursday 16th. Meeting this Thursday night 12th May at 9.30pm in Resource Centre, Market Square. All members please attend. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to prepare for the show, if you or anyone you know would like to get involved in the Show an invitation is extended to anyone to come along to the meeting. The Annual Agricultural Show takes place this year on Sunday 24th July.

Kurling

There will be no Kurling during the month of May. Gentle Keep-Fit classes for all members will be held in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva on Tuesday’s at 11.00 am sharp.

Arva Tidy Towns

Residents are asked to clean and tidy up around their premises and also to display floral Hanging Baskets and Window Boxes. The application form for entry to this year’s Tidy Town Competition must be in before 16th May as Judging commences in early June.

Welcome home

We say a hearty Welcome Home to Fr Sheamie Cullen, Gartylough, Arva who is taking a well deserved break from his missionary work in Japan. Many of his friends were worried about his safety when the Earthquake struck Japan earlier this year but thankfully he was not in that area. On behalf of all his friends we hope he enjoys his holiday.

SafeTALK is a 3 hour suicide alertness programme that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. The set of skills taught during the course may help save lives. .
