RATHOWEN FASHION SHOW
The inaugural Rathowen Fashion Show, which we hope will become an annual event, is to be held shortly. The ladies of the village are busily organising the event. It is to be held in Feericks Hotel and Restaurant on Friday 10th June 2011. The event will start at 9 pm and will be preceded by a Champagne and Cheese reception. The cost is €10 per person. A great night’s entertainment is guaranteed. Proceeds from the night are going towards the Rathowen Tidy Towns and Stepping Stones Pre/After School.
The residents of Rathowen are again preparing the Village for the Tidy Towns Competition which is held during the summer months. Buildings are being given a fresher look, grass verging are being prepared and the green area’s constantly cared for. The next stage of the process is to get as many people as possible to assist in a cleanup/tidy of the village on the afternoon of Saturday 21st May 2011. Tools and equipment will be provided. Congratulations to Assumpta Keary, Kilmore, Streete and Philip Walker, Derry, who were married in Boherquill on Friday.
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Hugh Meehan and family (Culvin Streete) on the sudden death of his brother Thomas (Tommy) in Dublin last week Tommy’s funeral was held on Saturday last in Boherquill and burial afterwards in Boherquill cemetery. Tommy was a dedicated Fine Gael member and it was very evident that he was held in very high esteem by the party with the attendance of Minister for Enterprise Jobs & Innovation Incumbent Richard Bruton at the funeral. Minister Bruton gave a lovely speech at the end of the burial about Tommy and his life with Fine Gael and how Minister Bruton worked along with Tommy for 30 years. Minister Bruton recalled his own personal fond memories with Tommy and their work on the campaign trail. May he rest in peace.
