Michael McGovern from Granard and Josie O’Rourke are taking part in a 5km walk on Sunday, 13th March from Granard to Abbeylara and back at 3p.m. The walk is in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation and they are asking for support on the day when anyone is welcome to join in. Michael had some serious health issues and now if is encouraging anyone who is fit and healthy to walk with them. Sponsorship cards are available if required from Breege Campbell 043 6685241.
Both Streete teams had home games last week. The A team came up short to Tyrrellspass A team, the visitors being easy winners. For the second week on the trot the B team showed how to bowl with a comprehensive victory over Athlone, taking all five points. It looks likely that the B team is going to pass out the A team in the league.

On Sunday next March 6th.the Streete Bowls Club proudly host a Ladies Only Competition. All the lady bowlers in the Westmeath league will be competing for the Mary O’Hara Memorial trophy. This is a beautiful trophy which was kindly donated by her family.
Loreto Mullingar u16 basketball team hosted their All-Ireland Playoff tournament in Streete on Friday, Feb 25th. This was a qualifying tournament with the winner and runner-up going through to the next stage of playoffs.
The Ramblers held their annual “Snowdrop Walk” on last Sunday, February 27th. Oliver Usher led the walk as in previous years and the bright sunshine made the many contrasting elements of the walk even more of a treat. The starting point was Drewstown House near Clonmellon, a big house that was once a family residence but is now run as a Christian Centre, overlooking its own man-made lake, the White Lough, which was graced on Sunday by a pair of swans. The Ramblers agm will be held in Cornmill Pub on next Sunday, March 6th. The Ramblers will meet at Boherquill Church at 1.30pm and the meeting will begin after a short walk at approximately 3.00pm. Please note this change in starting point for the day.
