Open Evening and Enrolment - Ardscoil Phadraig, Granard. Parents of sixth class students are invited to attend our Open Evening on this Thursday 15 October 2015 from 7-9pm. Pupils and parents can view the excellent school facilities, meet students and staff and see the achievements, work and the success of our students first hand. Parents/guardians are also invited to enrol their children in the school on the night.

Streete Bowls club are holding a charity fundraising competition in aid of St. Christopher’s Care Centre Longford in Streete Parish Park on Sunday, 18 October 2015 at 2.00pm. Draw will take place at 1.45pm. St. Christopher’s Care Centre provides care for people with disabilities and relies heavily on donations. Your support will be appreciated.
Bingo continues each Wednesday night at the Community Centre, Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Jackpot now stands at €20,000 in 42 calls or less. The second Jackpot is €2,900. Your continued support is appreciated. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s G.A.A. Clubs.

Siopa Lus na Greine
Our Siopa is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Thank you for your continued support. We welcome your cast offs, bric –a – brac etc. these can be dropped into An Siopa. All proceeds from An Siopa go directly to the Centre to fund projects in the Community.
A Benefit dance for the family of the late Sean Mulligan Ballinamuck will take place in the Breffni Arms Hotel Arva on Monday 16 November 2015. Music on the night by Night Fever, Mick Flavin, Noel Cassidy, Jimmy Hussey and Busy Fingers. Tickets cost €10 each - the committee will be out selling tickets over the next few weeks and your support will be very much appreciated.
The St. Vincent de Paul Shop Main Street Granard opens each Monday morning from 10.00am to 1.00pm. Every Friday 10.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday from 11.00am to 5.00pm as well as the first Tuesday of each month. Come along and bag a bargain while supporting a very worthy local cause.
St. Mary’s Church Granard is the venue for An Garda Siochana Male Choir on Sunday, 15 November at 5pm. Proceeds to St. Vincent de Paul Granard. Tickets available at various outlets in town or from any member of the committee. Your support will be appreciated.

Men’s Social Club
The group held their meeting on Tuesday 13 October in Rath Mhuire Centre at 12.30pm. and as usual had a very interesting afternoon. Next meeting is on 27 October. New members are very welcome, good company and good food will also be provided! Transport available on request.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday 19th October in Rath Mhuire Centre and we are always delighted to welcome new members to the group.
Moatsiders Active Retirement Group
We hope everybody enjoyed their trip to Carrick-on-Shannon Food Market and their day out in the town, our next meeting will be Thursday 22 October at 2.30pm with Patricia our Yoga Facilitator. New members are always made very welcome.

The County Longford Minor Final kindly sponsored by Hanlon’s Gala Longford was won by Northern Gaels on Sunday last in Glennon Bros. Pearse Park Longford. They defeated Killoe Og on a score line of 1-7 to 0-8 In a tightly contested match. This was the third-in-a-row title for the young footballers of Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta. We congratulate the players and their mentors Damien O’Connor, Conor McElligott and Sean Murphy. The Peter Sheridan Man of the Match award was presented to Cian Brady the centre half back on the Northern Gaels team. When the club was founded 30 years ago the late Peter was the first chairman and his son David is the current chairman of the club.
Congratulations to Lisa Kiernan, Coolarty and Cian O’Brien who were married in St. Mary’s Church, Granard on Saturday, 10th October. A reception for family and friends followed in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon. We wish the happy young couple every good wish for the future.
The death of Anne (Nan) Lord, (nee) Dal,y Aughnagarron, Granard occurred peacefully on Monday, 5 October at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home, Longford in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Jack. She will be dearly missed by her loving sons Michael, Gerry and Kevin, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family circle, neighbours and many dear friends. Her body reposed at her home on Tuesday and Wednesday with removal to St. Mary’s Church Carragh on Thursday morning for funeral Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.
