Readers and Ministers of the Eucharist Rotas, your new rotas will soon be available. In the meantime, please follow your rota of March 2014 to March 2015.

Collectors at Mass

Your new rotas will be distributed soon. Please make sure you are present for the Masses you have volunteered to collect at. Also please help with counting the collection after Mass, as this is now a Diocesan, Bank and Accountants regulation. If you are unable to collect at a particular Mass, please get another collector to replace you.

GAA Club

Membership for 2015 can now be paid to Kevin Murphy, Carra, or any member of the Executive Committee, at your convenience, please, as follows: €50 adult players, includes membership and insurance; €35 student players includes membership and insurance; €25 adults; €40 per couple, €10 non playing students; €10 OAP. Thank you. Closing date for receipt of membership is Tuesday, 31st March. Your membership support for your local Abbeylara GAA Club would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Abbeylara / Granard Bingo which started five years ago on the 18/03/2010. Sincere thanks to all the people who have supported the Bingo during these years. Thanks very much to the people who organise and run the Bingo. Also sincere thanks the Granard Community Centre for the use of the Centre.


Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €19,700. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

Slimming World

Easter Festival

Granard Easter Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5. A fun filled, action packed weekend is in store. Our Historical walk will take place on Saturday morning. Our Grueling 5k run on Saturday afternoon. A not to be missed Novelty Race will take place on Saturday night. On Sunday we will have our Easter Parade with Street Entertainment and Live Music.

Table Quiz

A table quiz will take place in Fay’s Bar, Granard on Friday, 27 March at 9pm. All proceeds will go directly to Granard Easter Festival. Your support will be very much appreciated.

Ladies Night

A fundraising night for the Easter Festival will take place on 20 March at 9pm in the Boomerang Lounge Bar. Fabiani Shoe Boutique Longford will have a display of fashion shoes and handbags. Refreshments will be served and cost is €10.

Daffodil Day

The Irish Cancer Society provides a number of free services to cancer patients and their families when they need it most. By supporting Daffodil Day, we are ensuring that these services can be continued and that no one has to face cancer alone. As I am not available on Friday 27 Daffodil Day collections will take place at Supervalu Granard and McBriens Supermarket on Thursday 26 March. Any support is much appreciated. Granard Agricultural Show AGM takes place on Tuesday, 24 March in John Vs Lounge at 9pm, all members to attend and new members are very welcome.

Motor Neurone Disease Fundraiser

Lough Rynn Castle is hosting a Charity Dinner Dance on Saturday 4 April in aid of Motor Neurone Disease. Tickets are priced at €45 per person; this includes arrival drinks at reception, a five course meal and half bottle of wine per person with entertainment by “Gobsmacked” with Special guests on the night. Tickets are available from the hotel reception on 071 9632700. This night promises to be a great night for a very worthy cause so please support!

An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service is available at Granard Area Action Group Office Main Street Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.

Spring Concert

Crover House Hotel & Golf Club will host a Charity Night with some of Ireland’s top Music Stars on Wednesday, 25 March. Some of the Stars include Eugene Ginty, Patrick Feeney, Susan McCann, Conal Gallen and Visdimir Joblokov. Tickets are on sale at €25, doors will open at 7.30pm where the show will kick start at 8.00pm sharp. All proceeds will go directly to the County Cavan Cancer Night Nursing Services. This promises to be a night not to be missed! Your support would be very much appreciated.

GAA Club

Abbeylara GAA Club will hold a meeting on Thursday, 19 March in the Handball Sports Centre, Abbeylara at 9.00pm. All officers and committee members are requested to attend please.

Tidy Towns

Abbeylara Tidy Towns are holding their AGM on Thursday, 19 March in Sports Centre at 9.00pm sharp. New members are always welcome. Our aim is to keep Abbeylara clean and tidy all year round.

Festival Committee

The above committee are holding a Table Quiz in Crawford’s Lounge on Saturday night 28 March.  Proceeds are for on-going expenses in order to organise this year’s Family Field Day which will be held on Sunday 14 June. More details in next week’s newsletter.

Special Olympics

Special Olympics Ireland urgently requires volunteers in the Longford Area to help with our charity collection day on Friday, 24 April. Collection Day is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The money raised on the day will be used to ensure that Special Olympics Ireland can continue to realise its promise of offering people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate in sport in their area. Positive Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Are you assist trained?? If so would you like to become part of a Community Volunteer Group who wants to promote positive Mental Health and Suicide Prevention”? A meeting will take place on Tuesday 24 March 2015 at 7.30pm at the EDI Centre, Longford. You are welcome to attend.

Irish Leaving Cert Revision Course

An Honors Irish Leaving Cert Revision Course will take place in Longford town on Tuesday 31 March from 10.00am to 4.00pm. An Bhéaltriail (Oral Irish), Essays, Prose, Poetry and Grammar will be covered and notes provided. Defibrillator Training

The Carers Association

The Carers Association are providing QQI (FETAC) Level 5 Care of the older person training on the 26 March 2015. Granard Motte Community Enterprise is holding a Monster Bingo in the Canon Kelly Hall, Granard on Sunday 22 March at 3.00pm. This will be the first every Bingo event held in the new Hall. Proceeds are in aid of the Granard Visitor Centre project and €4,000 in prize money must be won. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Country Market

The winners of our free raffle on Friday last were, Bridgie Burns, Mary Reilly and Gabriel Devine, we congratulate them and hope they enjoy their goodies. The market continues every Friday from 8.30am to 11.00am beside the post office.
