New Year Births

New Year Births

We send congratulations to Michael and Claire Kelly, (Byrne) on the birth of their baby son Daire on New Year’s Eve and to Pat and Eilish Finn (Mallon) on the birth of their son Owen on Friday, a New Year gift for Rachel, Isobel and Luke .We wish  both families joy and happiness and God’s blessing.

St. Mel’s Cathedral

It is wonderful to have St. Mel’s Cathedral open again for Christian worship. It is great to still see the inviting picture of the Holy Family greeting you as you enter the side door. The restored cathedral will stand as a monument Bishop Colm O’Reilly, who committed the last five years of his ministry to this project and to the designers and workers who made it all possible. The Cathedral now resumes its role as a quiet place of worship for the Longford parish and the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. Well done to all who worked on restoring this treasure.

Set Dancing

Set dancing resumes in the Garryowen on Tuesday night January 13th.

Congratulations to Paul Heaney and Jennifer Logan who have announced their engagement in Australia.

Death

We offer our condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Mary Kate Reilly, Newtownforbes who died recently. She was the daughter of Rosetta Fanning of Farnaught, the first pupil to enroll in Gortletteragh NS when it opened in 1898. Her father was Frank Reilly from Gubadorish. I had contact with Mary Kate while working on the Gortletteragh/Farnaught NS Reunion in 2009 and found her very helpful and accommodating. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
