Community Association

The Committee are delighted to announce the completion of a very successful six week activation and training programme under the auspices of LCRL, where training was provided in IT, Cookery, Tiling, Upholstery and much more. Last week the Committee have commenced a Healthy Eating six week programme and due to demand a third class was added to the Wednesday programme, with classes at 9.45am, 12.30pm and 7.30pm, Community engagement is important to our community where building social network and having a look at the needs of our community. Over the coming weeks various events will emerge. Keep an eye on this space or drop into any of our classes- you are very welcome. Limited Places available contact 087 9181787.

Healthy Eating Programme

Due to the overwhelming response to the FREE Healthy Eating Programme in Drumlish Community Centre a third programme is now added at 12.30pm, Wednesday.

Warmer Homes Scheme

Longford Warmer Homes provides free attic insulation, cavity wall insulation and energy advice to elderly and disadvantaged home owners throughout the county that meet certain criteria. Longford Warmer Homes also carries out work for the elderly as part of the Care & Repair Scheme. We are trying to make people throughout Co. Longford aware that this free service is available. A reminder to check the Longford Warmer Homes Ltd website and facebook page to see if you are eligible for FREE Attic & Cavity insulation before the winter rush sets in. Save the Date

After the hugely successful twinning event hosted by Ballinamuck Enterprise last year, our French partners are determined to prepare an amazing programme of activities for the young people from Ballinamuck and Drumlish in July 2015. The event will be organised around making musical instruments from recycled materials and then playing them at a grand finale concert. The dates for the twinning visit are the 17th to the 28th July 2015. We will be looking for 15 young people from Ireland interested in music, recycling etc to take part in this project. Families who hosted our French visitors last year will get priority. After that, names will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Gun Club AGM

The Drumlish/Ballinamuck Gun Club AGM including competition for the longest and Heaviest pheasants, shot on 1st November will take place at 10.00pm in The Olde Village Inn, Drumlish. Music and raffle on the night.

Ballinamuck ICA

Thank you Lillian for all the info contained in the email. I was delighted to be filled in on all the details. Advance notice of our November meeting which will be held on Thursday, November 6th at 8.30pm in the Visitors Centre, Ballinamuck. Please note change of evening for the meeting. All members are asked to attend. New members are always very welcome to come along and see for yourself what we do in ICA. New members are entitled to two meetings free before they decide if they wish to join. Our classes in Patchwork have just finished and classes in Crochet and Knitting begin on Wednesday, November 12th at 7.30pm in the Visitors Centre. This class is also funded by Longford/Westmeath Education Board. Longford Town Guild ICA are hosting An information evening on Healthy Eating/Grow your Own in The Family Centre, on Thursday October 30th at 8m. Admission is free and all guild members are encouraged to attend. Throughout the month of October, the Federation has managed an information stand in the Longford Shopping Centre giving members of the public an insight into the work of the ICA. The stand is in place from Thursday to Saturday from 11am to 1pm.

Feast of All Saints

Sunday next is the Feast of All Saints and is a holy day. Masses in Drumlish on Friday (Vigil) at 8.00pm and on Saturday at 11.00am. Mass in Ballinamuck on Saturday at 10.00am.

Dromard Child Care

The above are holding a Mega Fundraising Halloween Party on this Friday night, 24th October from 7.00 – 9.00pm in The Latin School, Moyne. There will also be a raffle on the night.

Thanks to the Drumlish Walking Group and all the others who donated money and climbed Cairn Hill for the Charity “Climb a hill for Jack and Jill” in the month of September.

Breath, Stretch and Relax

All Souls

Sunday next is the Feast of All Souls. Those who wish to have their deceased remembered in Masses. During the month of November are asked to fill in the forms which are at the entrance to the Church, and drop them into the box in front of the Altar. Thank you.

Conditions for Indulgences

From 12 noon on 1st November until Midnight on 2nd November, all who have (a) confessed, (b) received Communion, © prayed for the Pope’s intentions (one Our Father, and Hail Mary, or any other prayer on ones choice) can gain one plenary indulgence – applicable only to the souls of the departed – by visiting a church or oratory and there reciting one Our Father and The Apostles Creed. From 1 – 8th November the faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence once per day – applicable only to the Holy Souls. Conditions a, b, c, above apply to this.

Note:- Confessions will be heard after 11am Mass and 8pm Mass on Saturday in Drumlish.

Longford Association in Dublin

The above will take place on November 12th at 8pm in Cassidy Hotel, Cavendish Row, Dublin. The Association is asking readers of the local Leader notes throughout the county to let Dublin-based family members, - who may not have sight of this- know the details and ask them to please ring 087-2595963 beforehand if they intend coming along to the meeting.

Illegal Dumping
Drumlish Cemetery Ltd wish to make everyone aware that dumping in the Cemetery of materials from graves eg. old wreaths, dead flowers, plant pots etc. is illegal.  Please bring these items home with you.  There has been a problem with dumping of these materials for some time now inside the front wall by the tap, people have now started throwing this waste material across the wall at the top of the Cemetery.  Anyone identified dumping any waste material on the grounds of the Cemetery will be reported to the Litter Warden and will be prosecuted.  It is in everyone’s interest to keep a rubbish free Cemetery and respect the site as it should be respected. 
 
Mock Wedding
Drumlish Cemetery Limited is presenting a Mock Wedding in the Community Centre on Friday, 12th December.  As part of this event we are looking for any singers in the parish interested in being part of the Closing Chorus. If you would like to be part of what is going to be a memorable night then please come along to our first practice night on Friday 17th October at 8.30pm in the Community Centre.  If you are not able to make that night but are interested please contact 0862339304. 

Tidy Towns

The annual general meeting of Drumlish Tidy Towns’ took place in the Community Centre on Thursday last. The outgoing committed re-elected are as follows: Chair -Annette Kane, Deputy Chair, Mary Gillooley, Secretary; Scarlette Fay, Asst. Sec.; Eileen Kane, Treasurers; Romie Wallace & Dympna Davis; PRO; Bridie McCormack, Three new positions of responsibility have been created as follows: Jimmy Kane is responsible for the resource of Water and related; Dympna Cashen will have responsibility for fundraising and Mick Joyce will be Projects Co-ordinator. Planning for next year’s competitions starts immediately - the team will be knocking on doors over the next few weeks and months to encourage, support and suggest ways to bring the village up to the next level.

Drumlish Village & Area Enhancement are gathering for their next Car Boot Sale and would welcome any toys, teddies or re-cyclable seasonal items that you no longer have use for. One person’s waste could be treasure for another - Contact Dympna at 087 397 7799.

Badminton

Badminton in the Community Centre, Drumlish every Thursday night at 9pm. New and previous members welcome.

Strictly Come Dancing

Gaels Utd. FC is hosting the very popular “Strictly Come Dancing” in December as part of its fundraising drive. This is the first time this highly entertaining event has happened in the local area and it promises to be a truly memorable one. More updates to follow during the coming weeks.

Irish Dancing

Traditional Irish Dancing classes take place every Friday evening in the Community Centre, Drumlish at 4pm, under the tuition of Marian Kiernan A.D.C.R.N. All levels and ages catered for. Newcomers very welcome. Enquiries to Marian on 086-8478209

Ballinamuck Bingo continues every Tuesday at. 8.30pm, prize fund on the night €1300.00 .Fun for all ages.

P.T.A.A.

Longford Regional Annual Dinner Dance will be held in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Friday 14th November. Music by Chuck and June. Tickets €25 available from Adrian Lennon(087-7056605). The Longford Regional P.T.A.A. annual Mass for the deceased members will be held in St. Mary’s church, Newtownforbes on Friday 21st November at 7.00pm.

Senior Citizen’s Party

A meeting to arrange this event will be held in the ’98 Hall on this Wednesday 29th October at 8.00pm. All members please attend. New members welcome.

Daniel Joseph Masterson, son of Keith and Karen was baptised and welcomed into our Faith family last weekend. Congratulations !

Twinning table quiz
A table quiz will be held in Dillon’s bar and Bistro on Friday, 21st of November at 9pm. All money raised will go directly to the travelling expenses for those children from the parish who will participate in the 2015 programme in Essert France. A cake Sale in aid of AHAR (animal Help and animal Rescue) will take place at the Airport in Abbeyshrule on Saturday next starting at 12 noon to 5pm (onwards). Your support would be greatly and gratefully appreciated.

Recent Deaths

Annie Heaney: The death took place recently of Mrs. Annie Heaney, Bawn, Drumlish. To her sons Michael and Joe, daughters, Ann, (Donegal), Mary (Drumlish), sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, relations and friends we express our sincere sympathy.

Mary Carey (nee McVeigh)

The death took place recently of Mary Carey, late of Fardromin, Ballinamuck. To her family, friends, relations, we tender our deepest sympathy on her sad loss. Rest in Peace.

Ann McCarthy: Please pray for the soul of Ann McCarthy, aunt of Mary Gillooley and Dympna Cashen, who died in London recently. May she rest in Peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anaim dílís.
