This will be a night of Song Music and Dance with great entertainment guaranteed. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to attend. This is your chance to show the players how much we appreciate their efforts all year in which they won the Junior Championship and are in top place in the Division 2 League and should be guaranteed promotion to Division 1 B for 2015. It has been a fantastic year for the players and the entire community are proud of them. League: Arva travelled to Ryefield on Saturday evening last to play the home side in the Brady’s Arva Division 2 League which they won on a score of Arva 0-17 Munterconnacht 2-6. This win guarantees Arva promotion to Division 1A for 2015 and is a fantastic achievement following promotion from Division 3 last year. Having spent the previous 20 years in Division 3 this promotion means almost as much as winning the Junior Championship. For older members who recall the 1980’s when Arva were among the top teams in the county it great to be finally getting back up there again and hopefully they wil consolidate their position next year. The game was played with a strong breeze blowing down the field and Arva had the advantage of it in the first half after which they were leading by 0-9 to 1-4 – the Munterconnacht goal coming from a Penalty. Arva team – Richard Keith, Thomas Brady, James Morris, Cormac Mc Cabe, Stephen Ellis, Ciaran Brady, Paul Bouchier, Fergal Mc Glade, Cian Sheridan, Peter Morris, Kevin Bouchier, Conor Mc Entee, Conal Sheridan, Jonathan Mc Cabe , Brian Ellis. Sympathy is extended to Mr Michael McGahern, Cordownan and Mrs Kathleen Greeves, Coronea on the death of their sister, M. Teresa McGahern who passed away recently in London. Following the early death of her mother Tess as she was fondly known, Tess was raised by her father the late James McGahern in Coronea, and attended Coronea National School before moving to live with relatives in Killeshandra. She moved to England while in her teens and joined the Sacred Heart Order where due to ill health she was forced to leave but when her health returned she trained as a nurse and dedicated her life to caring for the sick and elderly. It was Tess’s wish to be buried in Killeshandra and her remains were received into St Brigid’s Church by Rev Dan Sheridan P.P. Rev Colm Hurley and Rev John Phair P.P. Templeport who Concelebrated her Funeral Mass. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. We extend sincere sympathy to Michael, Kathleen, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and the O’Reilly family, Killeshandra. Sympathy is also extended to Mr Eddie Ward, Farrangarve, Arva on the untimely death of his brother-in-law, Mr Paul Fullen, Pomeroy, Co Tyrone which occurred on Sunday, 12th October following a short illness.
Be Safe – Be Seen
With the clocks going back last weekend and the evenings getting darker we urge anyone going out walking or cycling to wear reflective clothing so that drivers can see them in good time. A small Flash lamp is an added bonus. It’s sometimes very difficult for drivers to see pedestrians especially if they are wearing dark clothing and there is an onus on everyone to take all precautions to avoid accidents.
Best Wishes go to Eugene Mc Gee, former Cavan team manager who is launching a new book on this Thursday, 30th October at 6.30pm in Croke Park. Eugene is probably best remembered as team manager of the Offaly team that defeated the great Kerry team in 1982 as they were minutes away from recording an unbelievable 5 in a row All Ireland titles. It’s a sign of the way the GAA works and the friendships that endure as Eugene has one of the greatest managers of all time, Mick O’ Dwyer to launch the book. “The GAA in my Time” should be a bestseller.
