Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers went to Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim for a weekend in Mid-October, staying at the lovely Lough Allen Hotel, with spectacular views over the Lake towards Roscommon. On Saturday they explored a section of the Miner’s Way from Arigna Village up over Kilronan Mountain, finishing with an underground tour at the Arigna Mining experience and a visit to the fine Coffee Shop. The tours are led by ex-miners, as the famous coal mines only closed in 1990. On Sunday, the Crummy Loop 10km walk explored the hilly countryside, woodland and bog at the foot of Sliabh an Iarann in Leitrim, setting out from Aghacashel which is the starting point for a number of interesting walks in the area. Saturday was sunny and bright, and a few showers on Sunday did not deter the walkers. The Ramblers wish to thank the staff of the Lough Allen Hotel in Drumshanbo for making the weekend such an enjoyable occasion; the food and facilities, including the leisure centre & spa were all excellent. Thanks also to the informative and welcoming team at the Arigna Mining Experience and to Jackie Lee at Aghacashel P.O. for his advice about walks in the area. A special thank you must go to Rambler Patricia Bruton who organised the weekend with her usual quiet efficiency. The Ramblers will visit Multyfarnham on Sunday November 2nd. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the Friary gates in the village at 2pm. Some changes have been made to the Walks Calendar for November. These will be included in future notes or they can be seen at
