Tommy Nevin RIP

Tommy Nevin RIP

The death occurred of Tommy Nevin, Kilmore on 11th August at The General Hospital, Mullingar, an affable unassuming and highly intelligent man. Tommy who was in failing health for the past few months was best known for his lifelong involvement in the G.A.A. He served lengthy and dedicated periods as an outstanding official with Clonguish and Longford County Minor Board, where his sharp insight and incisive contributions were highly valued and appreciated. He was also deeply involved with Scór and acted as County Secretary for several years. His organisational ability was beyond reproach. He excelled at Question Time and led his Club to success in the Leinster Championship. A treasured All Ireland came his way in this field as a member of the successful Clonguish Pioneer Team. Indeed he not only contributed largely at question time and general quiz competitor but also acted as question master preparing and presenting questions at numerous Scór and quiz competitions in Longford and neighbouring counties as well as coaching various successful teams in the region. At the time of his death he was Vice-President of Clonguish G.F.C. At concelebrated funeral mass chief celebrant Fr. Peter Burke in his own inimitable way paid a highly moving tribute to Tommy, highlighting his path through life after which he was laid to rest in the local cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his relatives, neighbours and many friends. May he rest in peace.
