25 Years in Business
Congratulations to entertainer Declan Nerney who celebrated 25 years in the entertainment business at a special night on Monday 18 August at the Marquee in Drumlish Festival. Many guests travelled from all over the country to honour Declan. We wish him many more successful and happy years in the businesss.

40th Wedding Anniversary

Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard commencing at 8.45pm. Proceeds go to St. Mary’s GAA and Abbeylara GFC. Your continued support is much appreciated. Jackpot is now €16,900.
Well done to St. Mary’s who defeated Mostrim in the Co. Longford Senior Championship on Sunday evening last played in Abbeylara. They are now drawn against neighbours St. Columba’s Mullinalaghta to be played on the weekend of 31 August. Abbeylara play Clonguish on the same weekend while this weekend Drumard play Colmcille and Longford Slashers play Emmet Og Killoe. All these games will be played in Pearse Park.
Colmcille Ploughing Association will hold their annual Ploughing and Field Day on Sunday 31 August at Dernaferst on the Noble Family farm. A Fun filled day for all the family.
Granard Men’s shed meeting regroup with interested new members on Monday 8 September at 5 pm in Lus na Greine FRC Main Street Granard. The next First Friday/Saturday Reparation and Adoration vigil to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary is in the Chapel of Our Lady’s Manor, Edgeworthstown on Friday the 5 September commencing at 10 pm with the Holy Rosary and Confession. Mass in reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is at 10.30pm. There are nine offices of prayer recited throughout the night with time for quiet prayer and adoration also. The vigil concludes after Benediction and the 6am Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain special graces, and to spend the night in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Ballinagh Garden Club will hold their annual Flower and Vegetable show on Monday 25 August. Entries for the J. Scott Trophy for flower arranging include- Hall Table Arrangement; Best House Plant; Best Sweet Pea Arrangement in Vase; Best Dahlias; Best Roses; Best Wild Flower Arrangement and Best 3 Gladioli. Entries for the T O’Rourke Trophy for vegetables include- Best 3 Onions; Best 3 Carrots Best 3 Parsnips; Best Head of Cabbage; Best 3 Roosters; Best 3 Kerr’s Pink; and Best 3 of any other variety of Potato. There is also a competition for the most ugly vegetable. Hall will be open for entries from 6.30pm and everyone welcome to take part. Entries are 2 euro per section. A Benefit /Fundraising night with raffle for Hamper and numerous other prizes will take place in Crawford’s Lounge, Abbeylara on Saturday, 13 September. Happy Hearts Walking Club
Walking continues as usual every Monday evening meeting at Higginstown Sports Complex at 7pm. A new route every Monday. New members welcome young and old.
Drop in your cast offs, bric-a-brac to us at the Siopa or to Lus na Greine FRC Main Street Granard everything accepted and welcomed. New stock arriving weekly, ladies, gents and children’s clothes all sizes. Beautiful jewellery to finish off that special outfit also shoes and sandals. Books are clearing at 50 cent each. Due to popular demand the shop is now open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10am to 5pm. All proceeds from the shop go directly and totally to projects in the area.

Pilgrimage to Knock
The annual Ardagh and Clonmacnois Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, 7 September. Ceremonies begin at 2.30pm with the Anointing of the Sick and Mass will be celebrated at 3.00pm. The untimely death of Elaine Bawle, (nee Brady), Newtowncashel and formerly of Longford town occurred peacefully at her residence on Sunday, 17 August following an illness bravely borne. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, her three young and extended family circle. May she rest in peace. Elaine was a popular adviser with MABS and attended at the GAAG office every Monday morning until her sudden illness.
The death of Tommy Nevin, Kilmore, Killashee occurred on 12 August in Mullingar Hospital following a brief illness. Tommy was synonymous with Scor in Co. Longford for many years and a staunch member of Clonguish G.A.A. all his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Sympathy is extended to his relatives and friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace.
