The judging for this year’s Tidy Towns and villages will be taking place soon. A big effort has been made around Kenagh in recent weeks including the painting of the old hall which has made a great difference. Some help from volunteers would be greatly appreciated, so people are invited to lend a hand on Tuesday evenings from 7 – 9pm for the next few weeks. Working together is always good, so maybe we’ll see you there.
The numbers drawn in Kenagh GAA weekly lotto for last week June 2nd were 1, 6, 11, 20. There was one match three winner Irene and Ethel Casey, Newtowncashel, win eighty euro.
An evening of nostalgia, storytelling and an exhibition of memorabilia will take place in the Library in Ballymahon on June 24th (Tuesday) relating to local participation in World War 1. The exhibition will include old photographs, letters and various items brought back by survivors of one of the most tragic events of world history. Over forty young men and one woman were involved. At least ten men and the woman lost their lives between 1914 and 1918. The exhibition will run for the week of June 24th to 28th and admission is free during library hours. The opening evening will begin at 7pm and will include prominent speakers. The exhibition is being arranged by the Leo Casey History Group.
Winners in Saint Dominic’s Centre last Thursday night were Jimmy and Mary, 12 games, 35 euro each. John and Mike, Tom and Peter, 10 games, twenty euro each. Longford Harvest Festival will be holding a table quiz in the Pier Inn, Lisnacusha on Friday night June 13th at 9pm. Tables of four, forty euro. Raffle and refreshments. Your support will be appreciated.
Kenagh Guild ICA are hosting a brown bread competition in St Dominic’s Centre on June 16th at 7pm. This competition is open to non members. The local winners will compete at the ploughing championships in September for national award. There will also be a talk on gardening matters at the same place and time, given by Derek Healey of Moyvore Garden Centre. All welcome to both events.

Kenagh were very well represented at the Longford county swimming finals on the May Bank holiday Monday. Well done to all the children who participated and thanks to Mary O’Boyle for assisting with coaching before the finals. The following were successful on the day. Gold: Harry Byrne U8, Aoibhin Kelly U10. Bronze Kevin Byrne, U10 Nia Bartrum U12 and Jamie Byrne U14. Harry and Aoibhin now go on to represent Kenagh and Longford at the national finals in Athlone in August.
Kenagh had nine entries in county Longford arts finals on Saturday last. Well done to all the children who participated and to their coach Ann Donoghue who prepared them for the finals, the following were successful. Gold: Adam Curley U8 and Jamie Byrne U14. Silver Niamh Hegarty U8, Kevin Byrne U10 and Aaron Kelly U14. Adam and Jamie now go forward to represent Kenagh and Longford at the National Finals in Athlone in August.
County track and field finals
Co Longford finals take place as follows – field events on Saturday 21st June at 2pm in Ballymahon. Track and relays events on Sunday 22nd June at 11am in Ballymahon GAA pitch.
